Our Mummy, Princess Adetoun Oladayo Solebo was born in Sagamu, Ogun state on the 28th of September 1942, to the family of Prince Stephen Akinyemi Adesanya and Mrs. Dorcas Adekefun Adesanya (nee Sosan) Her father was a pharmacist who served in different states of the old western region, before settling finally as the chief pharmacist at the general hospital Lagos. Unfortunately, he died when she was just 17 years old.

Adetoun had her primary education at St Jude's School Ebute-Metta and her secondary education at Ahmaddiya Girls’ High School Surulere, Lagos. She  was very good at athletics and she often represented her school at various athletic events. A beautiful , feisty and vivacious young woman, she had a brief stint as a model and was on billboards nationwide as the ‘NKU’ girl. She was recruited into West African Air Club (WAAC) where she worked briefly as a hostess with Nigeria Airways, before leaving for the United Kingdom in 1964.

On her arrival in the United Kingdom, she was reunited with the late Kareem Adebanwo Solebo whom she had met in Nigeria in 1960.  Their love was reignited and they got married on the 6th of February 1965 at the District of Lambeth Registry, London. Their union is blessed with three beautiful daughters- Omobolanle, Adenrele and Adeola. Her acquisition of three sons– Lanre, the late Robert and Deji was through their marriages. She was a proud Grandma to 11 grandchildren. She also had several "adopted" children. 


Adetoun was very hard working. She worked to support her husband through both his bachelors and masters degrees. In addition to raising her young family, she attended Croydon College in Surrey, England, for a part time course in Statistics and office record keeping.

On her return to Nigeria, she worked with Buildmoore Construction Engineering Company and thereafter Mount Sinai Hospital Group as the secretary to the Medical Director. She resigned in 1981 after the death of her husband to concentrate on her own business. She had 2 shops in Tejuosho market and was a distributor for Cadbury, Unilever and Nestle to name a few. She was into oil and gas before it became fashionable. She was a contractor with National Oil  and African Petroleum.

Adetoun was widowed early in life. She was 39 years old when her husband died . She struggled in the early days to look after her daughters, yet she made sure that they never lacked. Quality education was very important to her and she worked very hard to ensure that her girls received the best education available.  She never remarried, but dedicated her life to caring for her daughters and as they married and had their own children, to her grandchildren. She would always say that Jesus was her husband and indeed He was a wonderful one to her. 


She loved God and was passionate about serving Him. She renamed herself Favour, declaring that her life was a testimony of God's grace and favour.  As part of her quest to know God more, she attended several discipleship training programs including attending The Billy Graham correspondence course.  She was very active in church and was always at one prayer meeting or the other. She lost her sight in  2014 , due to glaucoma which she had battled with for years. It was very difficult for mum to adjust to the thought of being partly dependent,  as she had led a very active social  life. However, she did not allow her seeming disability to slow her down. She insisted on cooking her meals for years and would alway pick out her clothes and Jewelry. She continued to live as normal a life as she did before she lost her sight. She  did not lose her faith; if anything, she clung more to it, as she believed that God would heal her . 


Although she had her share of joy and pain, laughter and tears, battles won and battles lost, she was always very positive and had a generally optimistic view of life. 


 Adetoun Solebo will always be remembered for her wit, her love of politics, her sense of style and most importantly her enduring faith. Till her last days, she would always dance and sing songs of praise to God.
