Her Life

In loving memory of Audrey

February 29, 2016

Audrey Humlie-Peterson, 92, passed away on February 15, 2016 in Amery, Wisconsin. Audrey lived a long life that was characterized by her love of people, teaching and enjoining the beauty of God’s creation. She leaves behind family and friends that loved her and were privileged to have had her in their lives.

Audrey was born on August 30, 1923 in Canby, Minnesota, the fifth daughter of the Reverend Omar and Mary Brenne. She graduated from St Olaf College and began an over thirty year career as an English teacher in the Wisconsin school system. On Sept 1, 1946 she married the Reverend Peter H.A. Humlie and served with him in parishes located in Oregon, Iowa, Wisconsin and North Dakota. Over 17 years of this ministry was spent in Beloit, Wisconsin where Rev Humlie served St Paul Lutheran Church and Audrey taught English at Lincoln Junior High School and Aldridge Middle School. After leaving Beloit she lived in Hettinger, ND, Hazen, ND, Williston, ND, Mesa, Az, and Amery Wi. Her husband Peter passed away in June 1989.

In November 1991, Audrey married her high school classmate Robert A. Peterson and together they travelled and enjoyed each other’s company until Robert died in July 2008.  In 2009, Audrey moved to Amery, Wisconsin where she lived independently in the Evergreen Village Senior apartments until her death.

Audrey is preceded in Death by her mother and father, four sisters, and two husbands, Reverend Peter Humlie and Robert A Peterson. She is survived by five children, G. Peter Humlie (Carol) of Amery, Wi, John Humlie (Carol) of Hartford, Wi, Christian Humlie (Carol) of Lake Tomahawk, Wi, Matthew Humlie (Pat) of Gig Harbor, Wa, and Julie Cass (James) of Hayward, Wi, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

The family is planning a memorial service to be held in Amery later in the spring. Audrey enjoyed the springtime in Wisconsin with its many flowers and birds, so it is appropriate to plan a celebration of her life for this time of renewal and recreation.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Evergreen Village, 611 S Harriman, Amery, Wi, 54001. Please mention : In Memory of Audrey Peterson.
