Following retirement, Bill worked at Penticton Honda, where he could share his enthusiasm for cars with fellow staff and customers. He remained close to his sons, who both shared similarities with their father. Sean had obtained an education degree from Vancouver Island University, and after numerous years of teaching high school, had obtained a Master of Education from the University of Ottawa and become a professor at Langara College, residing in Vancouver with longtime girlfriend Lauren Rutherford. Scott had become an accomplished guitarist and had excelled at his studies at UBC Kelowna, graduating with a degree in Science.

In Penticton, Bill met fellow elementary teacher Barbara Dacre, whom he married, and became proud father to sons Sean and Scott Padley. Although Barbara and Bill divorced a short time later, Bill remained an active, loving father. He was Equipment Manager and Trainer of Sean’s hockey teams and taught Scott music.

After graduation, Bill sought adventure and moved far north to Inuvik and Tuktoyuktuk, working as an airline loadmaster. While living there, Bill met numerous young, talented musicians and played in a rock band called 'Bjarne and the Dynamics' with Brian Chamberlain, Jack Wilson, Arden Hillmann, Jeff Mahaffey and Larry Stefanyk. They had a weekly T.V. and radio show with 'Alf Walsh and the Ramblers', had a great time playing at the 'Teen Town' dances at the old military base, and won the Best Band award of the Peace River Region in 1964. In the late 1960’s, Bill was a temporary drummer for a band called ‘The Nighthawks’ and later reunited with past band mates to form a band called ‘The Still Alive Band’. Up north, Bill also followed in his father’s footsteps and become a member of the fraternal organization of the Freemasons.
