I really don't have a story....but a memory of meeting Bob at our re-union.   An amazing man, in his presence I felt so close to my father......How I wish these times had been available so much  earlier.  But thankful to Elaine Schenot for bringing us together.  I am blessed to have Bob as a treasured memory.  Thanks be to God.

Bob and St John's Community

June 2, 2017

Bob converted to Catholicism at this Silver Spring, MD parish in 1989.  He was a very active member as a Eucharist Minister for a local nursing home and for home bound members and as an RCIA leader.  He served as a Godfather as needed.  When the Adoration Chapel opened, Bob could be found there at 11AM every Monday for an hour in adoration before the Eucharist.  He offered prayers for the intentions of many.

He developed a friendship with the IHM Nuns that served the school and was Uncle Bob to many friends in Tommy Bozzo's class.  The many church and school activities filled his life after his early retirement.

Our vineyard home.

June 2, 2017

We had an unbelievably fun time in Chelsea Vineyard!  See the web 'Napa Vacation Homes".   The home was a 4 BR, 4 Bath home with a front and back deck overlooking acres of Cabernet Sauvignon vines and olive trees.  Traveling the roads was a challenge as we managed to visit a minimum of 3 wine tasting rooms daily.  It was truly a memorable time!

The Mag 7 group

June 2, 2017

Bob, Joy and Glenn Yokoyama, Pat and Ray Farkas, Helen and Tom Bozzo constituted the Magnificent Seven, aka Mag 7.  Joy named our group and Ray bought our shirts.  We traveled initially with our kids to Lake George and then with the 7 to Napa, New England and Canada, Sparks, NV, Las Vegas and the Poconos.

Long time friendship!

June 2, 2017

I have been in touch with Bob England and he said his friendship with Bob spans 66 years.  I recall Bob traveled to FL to help Bob with some easy cooking, in the wake of his wife's passing.  These 2 men spoke often over the years since Navy days.

Dear Uncle Bob

May 27, 2017

I was born in 1968, and Uncle Bob was my Godfather.  My father’s medical training meant that my three sisters and I grew up in a few different states.  It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I first met and got to know the man Mom and Dad affectionately called, Uncle Bob.

He picked me up from an airport in D.C. in his Karmann Ghia.  I was coming from an Ice hockey camp in New Hampshire, and had a 2’x 3’ trunk.  I don’t remember how he managed that and the sticks, but I’m sure it was met with laughter.  At the time Uncle Bob was engrossed in his new hobby of photography.  All of the pictures I have from that trip are of me unfortunately, but it was memorable.  I recall feeling that I had to be the luckiest boy in the world to have him and his abounding love in my life.

Uncle Bob was a lab tech at NIH with my grandmother, and Dr. Dorothy Marchbank.   Together with my grandfather the four of them were inseparable.  As you may know, Bob was orphaned at the age of 14.  My grandfather and Dorothy treated him like a son.  In 1957 they all took a trip to France together.  God’s hand was in it.

My grandfather was a doctor with a big heart stationed in Meaux, France during World War II.  Against regulations he secretly provided what was hard to get at the time - penicillin - to a local woman with a dying son.  Against the odds the boy lived, and a lifelong relationship was formed with la famille Giot.  How could my grandfather possibly know that after he died suddenly of a heart attack years later that it would be Bob Scheno that would act on his behalf and keep up the Morrison-Giot connection? We are forever grateful to him.

I visited Uncle Bob through the years.  He always took me to see my grandparents’ grave and told me stories about them.  None of my visits meant as much as the one after I had come from France and an extended stay with the Giots in 1991.  We talked for days, ate and drank French food and wine all the while, and we laughed.  We laughed at everything there was to laugh about in life. His laughter was infectious.  I loved him for that, and more.

I miss him, but I know I will see him again in Jesus Christ.  Until then, I know also that he will keep the bottle of bubbly chilled as he always did for anybody that came to stay.

French roadside picnic

May 27, 2017

Perhaps one of my favorite pictures.  I don't know why.  It's not a particularly good shot of Uncle Bob, but it captures the moment.  He laughed when I showed it to him and said, "That's how it was!".  Those are my grandparents with him.  Dorothy Marchbank took the picture while the four of them travled the French countryside. They were inseperable.

That's Jean-Christophe and his older sister, Michelle.  The wonderful Madame Giot probably took the picture.

French dinner party

May 27, 2017

This looks like a French wine cellar to me, which is exactly where I would expect to find Uncle Bob celebrating life and cracking people up with his funny stories. That's my grandmother on the right.  I think that's Dorothy Marchbank on the left.

The begining of a relationship, and the first of many trips to that beautiful courtyard at chez Giot.

My grandmother took the picture.  That's my grandfather standing, and Uncle Bob to the right with his immutable smile.

Memories of Uncle Bob!

May 12, 2017

I have so many wonderful memories of Uncle Bob!  I could talk to him for hours about so many things!  He loved to cook, loved art, and loved to tell me about the many places he traveled.  We were both born in Hudson County, New Jersey, so we enjoyed talking about all the places we remembered there.  He liked to talk about his memories of his parents, and how his life was when he was growing up.  He also would talk about how he has such wonderful friends and that he loved his church.    When Dennis and I would visit him in Silver Spring he would always plan places for us to see.  He would get us tickets to plays, museums, and the Washington zoo!  He would cook us great dinners and always made us so welcome!  Dennis and Uncle Bob would share a lot of laughs together,  always going back a forth with silly jokes!   I will always remember his laugh and his smile!  We will miss him!

Another family picture that Uncle Bob took on Christmas Eve.  His great nephew Eric is in this picture.

May 12, 2017

On Christmas Eve Uncle Bob would take a family picture.  From left to right is his nephew Dennis, Susan, brother-in-law Jim, his sister June, niece Maureen and Jenifer in the middle.  On Christmas Eve Uncle Bob and June would spend the day together.  They wound go to their parents graves and put grave blankets that a Uncle Bob would make.  They would have lunch and prepare for the Christmas Eve celebration.  We would all gather and go to church.  I have so many wonderful memories with them on Christmas Eve.  Uncle Bob and June  carried on all their family traditions at Christmas.  They would tell stories about how their parents celebrated Christmas, and how their father loved Christmas trees.  Uncle Bob loved to talk about his memories of Christmas.
