Salvation

May 7, 2011

The best thing that I remember about Mother was her sense of humor.  Her laugh was like medicine.  My brother and I both inherited that from her.  We never take things to seriously.  Mother and I always seem to clash, we had total different personalities which annoyed one with the other but about two years before Mother died I got saved.  She was sick about three years before she died and for the most part we seem to put our differences aside so I could help care for her but there was always this negativity between us. Mother went to live at an assisted living home eight months before her death and she was not happy about it but she made the best of it.  I wrote her a letter and gave it to her and l told her I was sorry for anything I had ever done wrong and I told her if God can save me he can save anyone.  She thought because she had not lived a spotless life she could not talk to God but I told her to ask God to save her first and he would help her with the rest.  My aunt would go see her from time to time and ask her to pray for salvation.  One day she did and her life was changed forever.  The funny thing about my mother is she had short term memory loss and I would ask God how can she ask you to come into her heart if she can not remember it the next day?   My aunt did not tell me until a couple of weeks later that she had prayed with Mother and she ask Jesus into her heart because I was telling her how Mother had been so kind and caring with me and how we had talks that we had never had before and there was just a glow and a smile that she had not had.  That is when you know it is God because he can break through any handicap you may have  to make sure you that does not keep you from the promise land.  Mother's problem was her mind but God only heard her heart.  I feel so lucky because I saw a miracle happen here on earth that we only read about in the bible. They happen every day you just have to open to see them.   I believe our Mother is very proud of my brother and myself and that we too have accepted Christ and one day Jesus Christ and our mother will say, "welcome my child, what took you so long?"

Rick's recollections

May 5, 2011

I have fond memories of my mom, mostly from my childhood. She was not only my mother, but also my best friend. I remember sitting on the porch with her many a summer night, just talking about life. I know that she always put others before herself and even as I became an adult, she was always willing to listen and never judged me. It was mom who influenced me to become an Elvis fan and she used to share stories with me about what it was like to grow up during that time and how she went to see Jerry Lee Lewis in his heyday. Memories flood my mind about her now, and I know now that I wasted so many opportunities to spend time with her when her health went downhill. It touches my heart to know that she gave her life to Christ shortly before her death and I know that if she could look down from heaven, she would be pleased that I eventually did the same. She was influential even in death as it was that event, among many others, that God used to get my attention. I didn't realize just how much I would be impacted by her death, but I like to think that in spite of her ups and downs, I was impacted more by her life. I miss you, Mom.
