It has been an honor and privilege to have known and worked for Congresswoman Carrie Meek in the late 1980s while she was a State Senator and then throughout her 10 year career as a member of the United States Congress.  Carrie Meek was a trailblazer and a history maker; her drive and dedication to serve the public and focus on assisting the disadvantaged was admirable!!

She taught me so much about politics, the importance of service to others, working to improve your community and human behavior.  She was a master negotiator with an extraordinarily complex mind.

Carrie Meek never wasted time, always moving, always thinking but always had time and energy to help those near her.  With a get sense of humor, more humility than most and all the confidence in the world when fighting for what was right - she is a force that will be missed but will carry on through all of those that she influenced.  Carrie Meek led a life that demonstrates the power of ONE and the unselfish power of UNITY.

To Carrie Meek, my friend, you will not be forgotten; I thank you.  To the Meek Machine, carry on!

With Love and Admiration - R.I.P. Carrie Meek

Ms Carrie Meeks A wonderful woman who my parents knew for many many many years. She was so caring, kind and loving. I remember the time we went to her birthday at her house and she taught us the cha cha slide I was a little kid and had so much fun. My Dad’s proudest moment is when he went with Ms. Meeks to the White House and got to meet President Clinton. He has their picture in his wallet still today. I remember she was there when my mom passed away and she was hugging my grandpa. She gave the best warm hugs. Mom will be there waiting for you with open arms in heaven. May you Rest In Peace.

It was my privilege to have known her when I worked for the Flórida House Speaker and she was a Senator, then during her time in Congress on behalf of FIU. As out of respect I wore my best blue suit when I went to see her, she nicknamed me "the Deacon."  My favorite moment was when her friends and supporters filled the grand circular staircase of the Rayburn House Office Building singing the Negro National Anthem following her swearing in a a Member of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress.  I'm proud to have called Carrie a friend and will long remember her good humor, her charm, her laughter and so many good things she did for our community.  Most of all I'm grateful for her inspiration to continue the work she pioneered.
