His Life

Carson Earl Kan: August 18, 1946 – April 16, 2017

April 28, 2017

Carson Earl Kan, age 70, resident of Los Altos California. Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle and Grand Uncle passed away surrounded by family and friends on Sunday evening, April 16, 2017.

He was much loved and will be sorely missed by his wife Edi (and family), parents Hank and Marge, brothers Forrest and Russell (Patty), his nephews Jomra (Rosie, grand-nieces: Jayla & Zuma) and Komishe.

Carson was born in San Francisco and was raised in Oakland. He graduated from Oakland Technical High School in1963. He obtained his Electrical Engineer Degree from the University of Berkley California. Soon after, Carson started his illustrious career at Hewlett Packard in 1968. After 34 years, he retired from HP in 2002/3 at the age of 57, where he left his mark, touched so many and developed long lasting friendships.

Carson met Edi Sanford circa 1987 in Sebastopol, California and after a long courtship (roughly 25 years) and relatively short engagement (5 years) they were married January 11, 2017 (Finally!). In short, they loved each other for over 30 years.

Carson so loved spending time with family and friends. He believed in not putting things off when it came to what the heart wanted, encouraging others to live in the moment as well.

His hobbies included magic, fishing, gardening, stamp collecting and his favorite, cooking. Carson also volunteered much of his time counseling cancer patients and their families. And more recently worked weekly for many years at Our Daily Bread Mission cooking and serving the less fortunate.

Carson loved living and enjoyed life to the fullest. He included all of those that he loved in his joy sporting that contagious smile. He truly was the life of the party and because of his zest for life, made it the best of times for all the people in his life.

Carson, we love you very, very much and we will miss you dearly.

We do so appreciate your comforting words, cards and notes, but if you are inclined to do more, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in Carson’s name. This will help continue the fight against what Carson and other families that had to endure when inflicted with this horrific disease.
