BIOGRAPHY OF MR CHRISTOPHER CHIMAH NWALOR ( DE C. C. )

May 6, 2021
Christopher Chimah Nwalor, born 14/08/1934 to Chief Dickson M.U. Nwalor and Mrs. Mary Nwalor (both of the Church triumphant) of Umuekeugo Ogbor Uvuru, Oke - Ovoro Clan in Aboh Mbaise L.G.A. Imo State.

He started life at his maternal home Umuogbe Okpala where he was living with his maternal grandmother who took and nursed him to survival immediately after his mother's death as a toddler.

He started school at the instance of his maternal cousin Mr. Edward Azunna (now late) at St. Finbarr's Primary School Okpala, now in Ngor/Okpala L.G.A. Imo State where he did his Infant 1 to Primary 2. He met Chief Ferdinand Nwaiwu (late) there who was then in his Primary 6. He and few others in his class who were the brightest were referred to as CKC BOYS i.e. would be materials for the prestigious Christ the King's College, Onitsha. This dream of going to CKC would not be due to the local politics played and the dichotomy then between Anglicans/Catholics, which made our Ogbor people querry his father, why he a staunch Anglican would allow his son to be in a Catholic School. Succumbing to this pressure, his father moved him from St. Finbarr's to All Saints' Primary School Uvuru immediately after his Primary 2.

At All Saints' where he resumed in Primary 3 in a new academic year, the school was having Primary 4 Class for the first time. He was highly brilliant and intelligent which made the headmasterpromote him to Primary 4 after a rigorous exercise to pick the best brain in that Primary 3 Class to add to the Primary 4 Class, due to the conditionthat, for a school to qualify to have Primary 4 and partake in the 'dreaded' Manager's Exam, it ought to have a minimum of 30 Pupils in Primary 4, but All Saints Uvuru had 28 Pupils only in Primary 4. Having jumped Primary 3 into primary 4 class, C. C. Nwalor knew he needed to double up. He met Chief Silas Adiele in that Primary 4, that was how they became pals. After the 1st term primary 4 exam, he came 7th among 29 Pupils. Theheadmaster wasn't disappointed at all. He never congratulated himself either. The Great Manager's Exam came and only him and Chief Silas Adiele passed from Ogbor.

All the successful pupils from Uvuru in the said Manager's Exam were moved to Ife to do Primaries 5 and 6. At Ife he met different pupils from various parts of Mbaise being that as at then only Ife, Udo and Ahiara had Primaries 5 and 6. The competition was higher. He needed to prove that from Primary 1 he was marked for CKC and now DMGS where his brother Godfrey is or the latest star called SAGS at Nkwerre which was being promoted by the headmaster and the Priest at Ife. Primary 6 exam was taken, result out, he was at the top of the list having passed Grammar School. He also passed the interview for Grammar School and was supposed to be headed to SAGS, unfortunately circumstances beyond his control didn't permit him to go. This was in the year 1953. He was bent on going to College and had to wait for the next 3 years within which his Elder Brother Godfrey Nwalor had left College and was employed with the Produce Division. He prompted him to go back and retake the Primary 6 exam. Having left school for 3 years there was this fear of passing or not. But he had the confidence that he would. He went back to do a continuation class with thePrimary 6 at Uvuru by which time Uvuru had gotten Primary 6. Of course he passed Grammar School, went for the interview at SAGS and passed. Joyfully he went to St. Augustine's Grammar School, Nkwerre then Orlu Division in that first term of Class 1 in 1956.

At SAGS he met with now His Royal Highness Eze Prof Ben. Nwachukwu, former Vice Chancellor of FUTO and Traditional Ruler of Ife Ezinihitte Mbaise and some others who are now late, like Joel Nwachukwu, Prof. Ihekoronye. He was in the team of Boys' Scout that went to receive the Queen of England when she visited Nigeria.

He finished from SAGS in 1961. He had a little stint in teaching at Mgbidi before his maternal cousin Mr. Edward Azunna (De Eddie) now late asked him to come over to Lagos for greener pastures. De Eddie accommodated him even after he was employed by the Federal Government anddeployed to Federal Ministry of Employment, Labour and Productivity. He began his career in the Ministry as a clerk in 1962, rose through the ranks and retired in 1999 as Registrar of Trade Union, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

While in service, every Minister, Permanent Secretary, Director he worked with found him very resourceful and that accounted for why he was never transfered from the Headquarters to any other part of the country. He travelled to so many parts of the world like the USA and the UK attending conferences and courses bordering on Industrial Relations, Personnel Management, Wages and Employment etc.

He got married to Elizabeth Nwabugwu Nwalor nee Onwukwe from Nri-Ukwu Amuzu Aboh Mbaise in 1975. The marriage was blessed with 2 boys, Chidi and Nkemdi who are Lawyer and Public Servant respectively.

For C. C. Nwalor family is first and everything. He deprived himself so much to see that the Nwalor family wasn't lagging behind in any sphere of life.

He is the propounder of principle of "ASUPETE EDEE" meaning WRITE AS YOU SPELL which was based on the fact that little by little any serious person no matter how lowly placed can achieve anything. He and so many other personswho emulated him both from Ogbor and outside used it to achieve feats that beat people's imagination.

C. C. Nwalor wouldn't want to hear that any person dropped out of school for pecuniary sake, he will quickly intervene unless the situation is beyond his resources. He paid the school fees of many persons in Ogbor at different levels of education and wouldn't want the next person to know about it.

When he got to Lagos in 1962, he sorted out Ogbor people who were already in Lagos like late Chief Joshua Adiukwu, the father of Our traditional Ruler HRH Eze Engr. G. C. Adiukwu, late Mr. GSO Anyamele, Mr. Enyinna Iroha, Mr. Benneth Odocha, Mr. Angus Nwokocha, just to mention but a few. He joined Ogbor Development Union (ODU) Lagos and served in different capacities from then till he retired and came back home this millennium. He was behind the many steps and strides taken by ODU Lagos in bringing many developmental projects to Ogbor. The provision of books, school uniforms and rewarding of outstanding performing teachers inthe Primary Schools in Ogbor by ODU Lagos were his thoughts and that of like-minds.

He was a very meticulous and principled person and believed so much in being proactive. He was also very bold and blunt and will see to the prevalence of justice and truth not minding whose Ox is gored.

In Church he was active in the Men's Group of St. Simon's Anglican Church until he became incapacitated healthwise. In the community, he was a member of the Ekwueme Age Grade, which membership by the cause of nature has dwindled drastically.

By the grace of God and his high level of discipline, he was able to manage Diabetics for 31 years. He had a domestic accident in September 2020 that led to partial stroke, a situation he was in until he finally took a bow on the 9th day of March, 2021.

Mr. C. C. Nwalor, will be missed by many for different good reasons.

As people of faith, we have consoled ourselves with the hope we have about the dead in Christ.

Rest on Dad, till we meet to part no more.
