I met Cyril at the Weizmann Institute in 1977 when I was a postdoc there and perceived him as a very nice guy, even as a friend. Whenever I had any problems, especially in combining the experiments with the PDP9 data acquisition computer and adapting its software, he gave me always very helpful advices. Maybe some of my experiments would even have failed without him. And moreover, I still remember a funny episode when he helped me to fix my car which didn't want to start, causing a flame blazing out of the carburator when he sprayed ignition aid into it... - After a long time we got in touch again in 2015 via facebook. We exchanged a few messages, enjoying to have found each other again. The more sad I was later when I read of his passing away. My best wishes are with his family.

Cyril was a big factor in the start of my career in Nuclear Physics. I came to the Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories as an NRC Fellow in October 1996. Cyril got me to program the PDP-1 computer to record gamma-gamma coincidences between two of the new Ge(Li) detectors. He was infinitely patient with me as my hands on the bloody switches were faster than my brain causing many failures when trying to load adjusted software !! I have remained forever in his debt. Also he was such a nice regular perceptive and very kind guy. We all miss him.
Megalove to all his family colleagues and friends,
JOHN SHARPEY-SCHAFER
