Hey Dave, miss you pal! The days aren’t getting any easier. Someday I hope I smile at the memories, now it’s just sadness. Rest easy my friend.

We met Dave in the winter of 2013 when we started to come down for the winter. Ed Cunningham introduced us and there began a wonderful friendship with Dave and Carole. Both Dave and I were retired firefighters so we had much in common. We were instant friends, always looking forward to our stay in Florida and gatherings at Paddy Mac's and breakfast on Sundays. Just a warm, friendly and funny storyteller--a real gentleman.
I feel blessed that Ed and I saw him in the rehab center this year. Very hard to believe his is gone but the memories will live on.
Rest in Peace our friend.

Dear Sully,
I am sorry it has taken me some time to process you being called home. Someone needed to keep Bull, Charlie, and Freddie apart before they were all brought up on charges. Again.
Geez Chief. When we last spoke in January, you said you would hold on until I came to visit in March. We were both in tears as you ended the call, saying, "I'll do my best. I love you. See you soon." Weeks later, you were called home on eagles wings.
I first met you as a kid visiting my mom who worked with you at State National Bank. You had the coolest office up front facing The Avenue so you could keep an eye on whoever pulled duty directing traffic that week.
You would greet me with a "Hey there, young fella, what trouble are you getting into this week?" Always a huge smile and laughter.
We sure went through some turbulent times. I was a young wise-ass upstart when I joined the Fire Police. (Forgive me Father for I had strayed) then was recruited by Tex to join the "Gerbronies" as everyone in the VH&C #2 would refer lovingly to the members of the Amogerones.
It all worked out. You, Bull, Mike, Freddie, Walter, Steelhead, and a few others talked some sense into me and became valuable mentors in my life.
We all experienced the best of times and the worst of times and are better for it.
My coworkers at Yale still talk about the fire chief they spoke to on the phone as they prepared for my retirement.
You followed up all the malarkey you shared on the phone with a thoughtful letter read by Chief Chris Doyle at my retirement dinner. How generous of you to take the time to do so.
Your mentoring and friendship meant the world to me. Not to mention having dinner with the gang at Ladder 8 in the 70's as they would announce "Chief on the floor" upon your arrival.
May God bless you, Chief, hold you in his arms, and give comfort to you and all your grieving family and friends.
Love,
“Sully”

In Loving Memory of David Clark Robbins
David Clark Robbins, a dedicated public servant and beloved member of the Greenwich community, peacefully passed away in Palm Beach Gardens Florida, on February 4th at the age of 86. David's life, rooted in service and commitment, leave an indelible mark on the town he called home and the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on July 19, 1937, to David and Marion Robbins in Greenwich, his roots ran deep in the community. Following in the footsteps of his father, David W. Robbins who served as Chief of Police, Dave dedicated his life to the safety and well-being of the residents of Greenwich. This unwavering commitment to public service extended to his brothers, Peter, another past Chief of Police, and Billy. Together creating a legacy of leadership and service that shaped the town for generations.
In addition to his professional contributions Dave was a loving family man. Together with his first wife Roni, they raised two daughters, Jennifer and Kathleen. The values of integrity, loyal and community instilled in his family echoed his commitment to making a positive impact beyond the workplace. These values of faith and service will live on in his children and his three grandchildren, Regan, Andrew and Henry Nightingale. If not in his office on the corner of Greenwich Avenue, Dave could always be found on the Stanwich Club Golf Course, at the Knights of Columbus, or driving up Greenwich Avenue when no one was looking.
After a lifetime of service in Greenwich, David moved to Palm Beach Gardens, FL, where he met Carole and they built a life together, one centered around church, travel, golf, and friendship. Despite the change in location, David's love for his Greenwich roots and the memories created there remained a cherished part of his identify.

As we bid farewell to David, let us remember him for the legacy of service he leaves behind in Greenwich and the enduring impact he made on the lives of those around him. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the warmth of memories and the gratitude of a community forever touched by his presence.

Dave has been in our family for over 55 plus years. He was a kind, dedicated and religious man to his family and every one who knew him. We last saw Dave and Carole when they were in Las Vegas several years ago. We kept in touch through our emails up until his passing. He will be missed and our deepest sympathy to Carole and his family.

I too marveled at David’s many great stories that he told with gusto and a mischievous smile. You could see the smile get broader when Carole gave him a little nudge or a squeeze of his arm. A kind, gentle man who led a purpose driven life. Chief, rest in peace.

I was blessed to be lucky enough to have Dave in my life and I will cherish the memories and find comfort in them. I could not possibly write a tribute that would adequately describe the incredible person he was. But, all of you were his friends so you already know that. His smile could light up a room! Keep his memory alive in your hearts. :)

We were lucky enough to meet Dave about 5 years ago as our next door neighbor. He and Carole are like family. We shared a lot of great memories and laughs together. Dave was always positive, never had a bad word about anyone, and never disappointed with his stories and wit. We will miss him dearly.

I met Dave and Carol at paddy Mac’s several years ago and what a delight. Dave’s sense of humor and ability to convey that to everyone around him was truly a gift. He was a great storyteller in addition to being an all-round great guy. You never really had to guess what Dave’s stance on issues was because he told you. I am honored to have met Dave and will always keep him in my prayers . God bless you Dave and save journey

Dave Robbins, my Brother-in-Law and a most special friend, leaves a big void in our family’s lives as well as the lives of his multitude of friends and family. I was constantly amazed at the depth of the relationships Dave shared with his friends from his years in New York and Connecticut as well as his more recent friends and family in Florida and the Carolinas. Dave's open and caring personality invited an open and interested response in all his daily interactions. Whenever I was around, Dave invited me into his group conversations at Paddy Mac’s and elsewhere, and his friends accepted and included me into their conversations, friendly banter and discussions whether political, sports related or in-general. I loved Dave like I do my own siblings and life just won’t be as good with him gone. Dave we love you and miss you.

Carole: Condolences from an old, old friend of Dave's. I knew Dave during his fire department days, his golfing days, and his beer drinking days. I also knew him and worked with him in the 1970's and 1980's when he was a prominent commercial banker with State National Bank {SNB}, at one time the oldest national bank in the United States. Among other things, Dave, as a Vice President and Senior Officer with an office in Greenwich, Connecticut, played a major role in developing and managing SNB's major national corporate account relationships. RIP Dave.

Dave was a great brother-in-law......well he was really Don's B-I-L but since I have always considered Carole as my sister guess he was my B-I-L. Oh, wait....if Carole is my sister that means that I'm married to my brother!!!!

Since I am from NC and have a southern accent, Dave ALWAYS teased me and put about 8 syllables in my name....Aaaaannnn!! I hope that I will always hear him saying my name in my mind!!!

Don and I will always love you, Dave!!!

We have you to thank for introducing us to the Corner Club at Paddys many years ago.
We’ve celebrated birthdays and cried at funerals together. It has been 2 weeks since your passing and our weekly ‘meetings’ haven’t been the same.
Your kindness and humor will not be forgotten. Your friendship will remain in our hearts and memories.

Dave: You were the best. You picked me up when I was down. You could always bring a smile to my face. The good times we’ve had from the Boys Club when we were eight, to our golfing outings as we aged. I hold these times as some of the best of my life. Fair winds and following seas, Shipmate!

Rest easy my friend. As I think back I can’t remember actually meeting David . The Lally / Robbins family connection in Greenwich was always there. So I’d say I’ve known Dave & Robbin’s family my whole life. We shared many good times together as friends, members of the Greenwich Volunteer Hose & Chemical #2 FD, Life at the Knights of Columbus, & Greenwich Police Emerald Society Pipes & Drums.. I smile every time I think back.
A little side and true story Davey and I would reminisce about …One evening Davey & his brother Peter pickd me up to have a heart to heart chat.. The topic was stop screwing around if I wanted to get on the PD in Greenwich at the time I was not hanging with the best crowd ‍ ‍They both advised me in there kind way if I wanted to follow in family tradition to straighten up and stop and dump the knuckle heads .. .Needless to say I listened ☘️☘️
Fast forward years later he would break my B___s  In that Robbins style and tell me he was responsible for 25 years on the job.

Going to miss you ..say hi to the boys ☘️

I met Dave a few years back. First time was in his favorite drinking establishment Paddy Macs. We hit it off right away. I said to myself this guy is my type of people. Dave being a decorated and distinguished firefighter later to become Battalion Chief and I being a retired NYPD Detective. We had many stories to share some funny and some pretty bad ones. We laughed and we cried together. Dave had a great sense of humor. On many occasions he had me in stitches. I was always looking forward to seeing him. I will miss my buddy tremendously. I remember what he often said to me. He said “Jim, if I had to live my life over again I wouldn’t change a thing”. Rest in peace my brother until we meet again.

I have lost the love of my life and he will be forever in my heart, my memories, my thoughts and my life. I spent the best 24 years of my life with him. He made me laugh every day. I feel like half of me is gone. I know that in time his memories will be less painful and will become treasures.

Dave Robbins is missed by so many. Thankful to have known him as a brother in law and a friend. Thankful for his commitment as a good husband to my sister for many years. Good memories of family reunions together. A few months before he passed Dave let me know he knew where he was going when he died...because of Jesus, the One who had died for him.

David Clark Robbins

JULY 19, 1937 – FEBRUARY 4, 2024

David Clark Robbins of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born on July 19, 1937, in Greenwich, CT, where he grew up.

David graduated from Iona University (Williams College of Banking) with a Bachelor of Science Degree and from Dartmouth (Tuck School of Business) with his MBA.

He worked as a fire fighter first in New York and then in Greenwich, CT Fire Departments. He climbed through the ranks as a young man and rose to Chief in Greenwich when he retired. After retiring he worked for a Greenwich bank for fifteen years before retiring to Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

In retirement he joined the staff at PGA Golf Course and Club where he worked for sixteen years as a rules official and master starter. He had a passion for golf and spent much free time on the course there.

David was actively involved in the Catholic Church, both at St. Patrick in Jupiter and St. Ignatius Loyola Cathedral in Palm Beach Gardens. He loved people and made friends easily. With his playful and colorful Irish sense of humor, and his warm personality, he attracted many loyal friends whom he cherished throughout his life.

In his early years he played both the bagpipes and the drums in the Emerald Society in New York. He marched in many St. Patrick’s Day parades down 5th Ave. He was a great storyteller, and told many of them over and over, each time more entertaining than the last. Wherever he went he left close friends with smiles on their faces.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother David and Marion Robbins, and his brothers Billy and Peter Robbins.

David is survived by his wife, Carole Robbins, daughters Jennifer Short and Kathleen Nightingale, stepson Dan Phillips and two stepdaughters Julie Londergan and Nicole Bailey. He had three grandchildren, Regan, Andrew and Henry Nightingale and step granddaughter Lauren Fanning, step grandsons Jarrett and Cameron Londergan, Reid and Ross Phillips, and Alex Bailey.

He will be loved and remembered by a host of friends from around the country, many of them firemen and cops.

The family would like to thank Palm Beach County Hospice and Neptune Society for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in his final days. He spent three and half weeks at Gardens Court Rehabilitation Center where he was cared for by an excellent team of nursing and physical therapy staff. Close friends have come often to enjoy his stories and humor.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 1:00 PM at St. Ignatius Loyola Cathedral at 9999 N. Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410.

Visitation with the family will begin at 3:30 at Paddy Mac’s Irish Pub and Eatery, 10971 N. Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to Tunnel To Towers.

Dave was such a sweet, kind and gentle man. His smile was infectious. I loved the times my husband Mike and I spent with Carol and Dave in Paddy Macs. We had great fun together. He had a terrific sense of humor and was so warm and charming. I treasure those memories.
Unfortunately due to a family tragedy we haven’t been to Jupiter in years. So we missed out on precious time with Carol and Dave
Our daughter Jennifer’s lovely young husband died suddenly leaving her with a 3 year old and a 3month old. We now spend as much time as we can helping Jenn and her family in San Antonio. Tx. The girls are 7 and 31/2 now.

We really miss Jupiter and often reminisce about the great times we had while there. I wish we had visited just one more time to raise a glass with Dave and enjoy his stories.

Carol our heart goes out to you on loosing the love of your life. You are an amazing person. It was so beautiful to witness how you were so devoted, kind and so loving to Dave. And how he in turn adored you.
Rest in Peace dear Dave. You will be missed by so many!
Slan.
