David Clark Robbins
JULY 19, 1937 – FEBRUARY 4, 2024
David Clark Robbins of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born on July 19, 1937, in Greenwich, CT, where he grew up.
David graduated from Iona University (Williams College of Banking) with a Bachelor of Science Degree and from Dartmouth (Tuck School of Business) with his MBA.
He worked as a fire fighter first in New York and then in Greenwich, CT Fire Departments. He climbed through the ranks as a young man and rose to Chief in Greenwich when he retired. After retiring he worked for a Greenwich bank for fifteen years before retiring to Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
In retirement he joined the staff at PGA Golf Course and Club where he worked for sixteen years as a rules official and master starter. He had a passion for golf and spent much free time on the course there.
David was actively involved in the Catholic Church, both at St. Patrick in Jupiter and St. Ignatius Loyola Cathedral in Palm Beach Gardens. He loved people and made friends easily. With his playful and colorful Irish sense of humor, and his warm personality, he attracted many loyal friends whom he cherished throughout his life.
In his early years he played both the bagpipes and the drums in the Emerald Society in New York. He marched in many St. Patrick’s Day parades down 5th Ave. He was a great storyteller, and told many of them over and over, each time more entertaining than the last. Wherever he went he left close friends with smiles on their faces.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother David and Marion Robbins, and his brothers Billy and Peter Robbins.
David is survived by his wife, Carole Robbins, daughters Jennifer Short and Kathleen Nightingale, stepson Dan Phillips and two stepdaughters Julie Londergan and Nicole Bailey. He had three grandchildren, Regan, Andrew and Henry Nightingale and step granddaughter Lauren Fanning, step grandsons Jarrett and Cameron Londergan, Reid and Ross Phillips, and Alex Bailey.
He will be loved and remembered by a host of friends from around the country, many of them firemen and cops.
The family would like to thank Palm Beach County Hospice and Neptune Society for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in his final days. He spent three and half weeks at Gardens Court Rehabilitation Center where he was cared for by an excellent team of nursing and physical therapy staff. Close friends have come often to enjoy his stories and humor.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 1:00 PM at St. Ignatius Loyola Cathedral at 9999 N. Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410.
Visitation with the family will begin at 3:30 at Paddy Mac’s Irish Pub and Eatery, 10971 N. Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410.
