I regret that I didn't really know my cousin Dennis even though he lived only a block away from me in Trinidad...my loss. But somehow, viewing this site has reimbursed some of that loss. Thank you Deanne and Giselle for letting me catch a glimpse of Dennis' life. And as you all remember his passing this Sunday, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
love,

One year ago God took you home for a reason that we will never understand. Today would have been your birthday, and I know for sure there would have been a "grand" celebration, but for whatever reason, it's not so. May you rest in peace as your memory continues to live on

Brother Poem: Written By Sister Lystra Funderburk

I wrote this as therapy as I though it would be good for me.

Never though it could be you, I NEVER wanted it too.

My tears will never go away, my heart seems like it has been thrown away.

While flying to see if it was true, memories of you ran through my head, and I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT MY BROTHER IS DEAD.

The last time I spoke to you, I promise to take care of you.

Always thought you would be around, not knowing you were on the ground.

I looked at you and I saw peace and that gave me some relief.

Now it is time to say goodbye all I feel to do is break down and cry.

Love you brother

I find it very difficult to accept that my brother and friend of over 50 years has left me just like that without a sound or murmur.Pablo epitomized caring, love for others,a sense of humour, impecable integrity, love for the Steel pan and the Bands from Wood brook(Starlift,Invaders,Phase2),a TRUE loyalist and a patriot beyond reproach. With all the faults he had I loved him still. Around Carnival time I would often meet Dennis along a street in Woodbrook and I knew he would, before returning home, drop by for a visit. He seemed to have all the latest news and would add some humorous anecdote to what he had to relate. Debbie also wants to say that she remembers him as being a jovial and carefree person. He will be missed.

So long Pablo. I don't remember a time in my life when I didn't know you. The Gittens and Lee families spent so much time together - Easter in Toco, Carnival limes, helping to make costumes for Starlift, waving flag for Invaders, pelau in the stands when the band crossed the stage, sailor bands and powder, pushing pan. R.I.P. my friend.

I knew him Pablo since I met him in 1972. He made us laugh especially at parties. I knew 2 sides of Pablo - the party side and the serious side. I remember when I saw Pablo in the deli on Lexington Avenue on a Monday morning and I did not recognize that Pablo. What a shock!!! After that I knew another side of Pablo that I really loved. See you again my friend.

I will like to thank Dennis for filling my life with joy, excitement and lots of memories. He was a true friend to me and my family. There were two sides to Dennis, sober and non-sober. I experienced both and to summarize our friendship, what a genuine intelligent person. He will surely be missed and my condolences to his family.

Uncle Denis, what can I say... It was just last Christmas that you were teaching me how to beat bottle and spoon, in the kitchen.I was looking forward to a day when we will beat bottle and spoon together, because I have been practicing. I may not have as many memories as everyone else but you will be missed just the same. R.I.P

We will miss you Uncle Dennis. You took my sister and me to the Empire State Building for the first time, taught us how to fly a wasp (jack spaniard) on a thread in our backyard in Trinidad, and encouraged us to play fun word games that made us think. We will miss your bottle and spoon rhythm section at Christmas and carnival time. May you keep the rhythm going in heaven.
