My Deepest Sympathy and Love to the Hobson Family. Our friendship had it's beginnings in the mid 80's in the Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex. Extremely fond memories of hanging out....Derrick and Pam/Richard and Menie and of course the children! Always a pleasure to be in Derrick's presence, such intelligence along with his wise quiet spirit! My heart remain with you...Pam, Sam and Camille. Continued Prayers for Strength and Comfort during this difficult Journey but what I've learned through the tears and sadness....God remain in Control! Rest in Peace dear Friend!

Pam, before I met you I used to frequently see you and Derrick playing tennis together at Bethesda courts. I admired how passionately you both played and seemed to be having such fun. The gallery of pictures made me smile to see what a rich life you had together. May you, your girls, and the rest of your family continue to enjoy those happy memories of Derrick!

I met Pam and Derrick playing tennis together. They were so friendly and welcoming. Derrick was working to make tennis more accessible to others with various challenges. It was easy to talk with him—my condolences to the family.

I did not know Derrick but I met him once at a tennis match where he proudly watched Pam play. I love you, Pam, and my heart aches for you and your daughters. Please know all of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Such a pleasure knowing Derrick in the short amount of time that I did. He brought such light, enthusiasm, wisdom, and passion to his work with our organization. He will be truly missed and I wish his family peace through his passing.

Just as Nikki, I remember going to Uncle James and Aunt Bea on holidays eating good food, laughter, adults playing cards and always a football or basketball game on the plasma TV. Ricky had received an awesome chess set and he and I would play a game of chess. I remember Uncle James taking Ricky, Mike and me to the Richmond Coliseum to see the Harlem Globe Trotters.
When I received the obituary in the mail and opened the envelope, my mouth dropped just how much Ricky looks like Uncle James. Hey look like twins.
Even though we haven't seen each other in some time, I will miss his smile and calm spirit.

Son, I will forever miss your legal counsel and our frequent debates on public issues of the day.

Growing up, I viewed Ricky as an example of how successful a person could be as a result of academic excellence. He was intelligent, thoughtful and soft spoken. Although I didn’t get to see him often, I enjoyed our conversations, especially about the environment and social issues. May he Rest in Peace.
