So what can I share with you about my sister?

1. Mommy always loved her best. OK, but only when I was 9 years old, and only for about a month.

2.    We grew up in a gentle environment with love, patience and kindness.

3. She ALWAYS wanted to be a teacher. I know this because I always had to play the student, and we always had to play school when we were little. Maybe that was why I didn't finish college - I had enough of school.

4. She could  do everything that I couldn't do: knit, crochet, make clothes, cook eggplant parmesean and make straight A's.


She made the world a better place by leaving 2 smart and talented sons, and Paul - who was the love of her life.  He was such a romantic, he proposed to her on Valentines' Day.

Then there are all of those kids she taught for the last 40 years. I estimate 3 or 4 thousand people in this world who had the privilege of learninig history from Dorothy Jane Weinman.  -  OK, she did math better than I did also.


Five years ago, she approved of Kelly while I was the one in the hospital, and she came to both of my weddings to him in 2010.   


Two weeks ago I told her she was the best sister in the world.


I will miss her every day and promise to stop feeling sorry for myself in about 10 years or so.

My first contact with Jane and Paul was when Julie was in the hospital. We had just started dating and Jane nor Paul knew about me yet. Julie wanted me to call and tell them she was ok and in good hands, and that it was not necessary to drive from Florida to Virginia where we live. Well.... When I called Jane answered the phone and I said "Hi! my name is Kelly and I am Julie's boyfriend and she wanted me to call you and let you know she is ok. I have been staying with her here at the hospital day and night and I am a retired Paramedic and watching things closely and meeting with her doctors." Well, Jane was so shocked she just gave the phone to Paul and I assured him everything was ok but in the background I kept hearing Jane say "Paul? Pack your bags, we are going to Virginia!" She was very protective of her sister! The next day both were there and I think once they met me and spoke with Julie (alone) they gave me the thumbs up. Jane and Paul drove up for both weddings we had. Being Julie and I are Quakers the state of Virginia would not see us as a legal wedding so we were also married by a Justice Of The Peace. I remember Jane coming to me after the wedding and hugging me saying "Welcome to the family. We take care of each other in our family and I know you will take good care of Julie. Since then we as a family have taken road trips to Florida, Ohio, and North Carolina for fun and reunions. I also gained two great Nephews Scott & Curtis. Paul and Janes boys. They have been such a blessing to us all. I will love and miss my dear sister-in-law. I will ALWAYS remember her. Rest In Peace Jane. We will meet again some sweet day.

I taught Dorothy Jane her first word.  It was when I went to Ohio to spend a couple ofweeks with the family one summer.  She was not yet one year old.  I would sit with her on the couch and brush her hair with her baby hairbrush.  She loved it.  With every stroke I would say, "brush" and she soon learned to repeat it.

A very sweet baby and always sweet as she grew up.
