My dear Elmyra,

i think of you so often and how much of my life I was lucky enough to spend with you and dear Mary. It was two days ago I was sharing the "stories of the lake" and the excursions the three of us would go on, tea parties, lunches, church and the like. Skinny dipping before breakfast, saying goodnight to father sun on the porch in those beautiful moments of silence as we all watched the sun go down. I miss you so much. I hope you are having fun wherever you are. Dear Elmyra,

Happy Birthday! It was warm today, daffodils are up. Was thinking about back when I used to surprise you with your orange all cut up first thing in the morning. I thought of the different ways to arrange it on the plate. Maybe a little flower in the middle? You always liked the poetry within the presentation of food. I miss you and love you!

A year has passed... it has flown by somehow, but your photo on my bulletinboard where I have breakfast always greets me... I wish I could have visited you more often than I was able to, especially having to leave in 2006 without having seen you, because of your shingles... still I will always be able to imagine how our contact was... you were my mother and friend when my own mother was not of such wisdom..thank you for everything, bo postma

I just came from Maundy Thursday services at St. James Episcopal Church in New London, and after receiving communion I began to pray, and in my "mind's eye," there was Elmira as clear as day smiling and at peace. I got instructions from Oleg, the founder of this website, on how to download original (hopefully high-resolution) photos or videos: Log in to your account. Open photo or video gallery. Mouse over item. Click on "Actions" link in lower section of thumbnail. Select "Download Original" from drop-down menu.  Now we can easily share high quality photos with each other.

Grammie often told of getting the call with news of my birth. In the kitchen in her wet swimsuit, she danced on the linoleum after hanging up. She always, always lifted me up...whether with tears of joy (common) or sorrow. She inspired, guided, and shared in the wonder of it all.

As neighbors we knew Elmira since she move to Gungy Road many years ago. Our boys Colin and Andrew mowed the lawns at her house. I enjoyed being called by Elmira to charge a car battery of do some chore. We had many pleasant visits with her and Mary. We were amazed at their social life, often hearing cars leaving at 11PM. She lived life to the fullest setting an example for us all.

Elmira befriended me after my mom, a friend of hers, died a few years ago. We were both comforted by the warmth of our connection. She was a great correspondent and conversationalist. She loved to talk about TKOS (that kind of stuff), her term for spiritual/existential matters. I hope her spirit is enjoying its new adventure! I will miss her and am saving her amazing phone messages :-)

Grammie, I was just looking through the photos people have posted here and reminiscing about all of those wonderful gatherings you and Mary hosted. Such a wonderful time! Thank you for bringing us all together. I also keep remembering how you would say that we are all exactly where we should be. So many times I wish I was doing a better job of being human. My dear Elmira,  I have been thinking about you for days.  Imagine waking this morning to find forever missed and a chance to write how much I love you and miss you.  Of course you were so strongly on my mind!!  Very few times go by that I don't remember you, your friendship and the many laughs we shared.  I still tell the story to friends about you "having a book for me to read", breakfasts and all the lovely tea parties we had together.  28 years of friendship!!  I hope you are having a great time whether out and about inter-dimensionally or reincarnated may you be filled with joy and wonderment.  My love only grows  Kathy Skolem
