Fred was born in Denver on March 26, 1934. He was the second of 3 children of Helen and Carl Zietz, Sr. He attended South High School and graduated in 1952. He joined the Army and was honorably discharged in 1956. He then attended California Polytechnic State University and graduated in 1960 with a BS in Engineering. He went to work for the A. E. Heinsohn Company where he remained until his retirement. It was at Heinsohn's where he met the secretary Janet Sue Johnson, and they married in 1969. They bought a beautiful little ranch house on a half acre in Lakewood where they welcomed a son, Frederick Arthur Zietz Jr. in 1970 and daughter Robin Elaine Zietz in 1973. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Janet, Son Fred (Heather Smith), Granddaughter Hayden, Daughter Robin (Dan Klint).
