My last note to mom written 5 days before she died.

June 28, 2021
My dear mom,

I could not let you go before I sent this last message to you from my heart. I want you to know that I  am at peace for you to rest now without anymore pain. My heart breaks thinking about it mom but so you know I give you my blessing for a beautiful journey onto to seeing your parents, sister and brothers.

We have certainly had our ups and downs throughout the years, you and I, however I chose to hold onto the best of our times together mom. I have also gained some wisdom to know that as a mom, you were doing the best you could and being a mom is the most important job on this earth to do. I want you to know that you have given me so many memories to cherish both as a child and into adulthood. I was proud of you making clothes for all of us girls and very happy and proud to wear mine! Then along came your grandchildren, more clothes to make! You were a wonderful seamstress mom. I particularly remember you making extremely bright multiple colored florescent pants for some of your grandkids. One time when Gord, the girls and I had gone to Cultis Lake for the day, the girls were wearing those pants you made them, Erin was a wanderer without a care in the world, Erin had wandered way, way down the beach and her pants were the only reason we could spot her amongst all of those people! I thanked God, then you for making those pants.

I was very proud of you during the many years you were involved our school, the PTA and girl guides. Loved that time you and I were in a skit together with a few others, we danced to the song ‘The Age of Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In’. Remember performing that? That was a great time. And quite the cook and baker you were sharing your goods with many. I most certainly know that each of us kids are gifted with some of your talents!

One particular remembrance that brings me much respect and love to you, is when I stole money, (I remember 10 cents), from your purse……. I felt horrible for a few hours before guilt took over, I felt I had to tell you about it. I wrote you that confection in a note! I was fully expecting a huge punishment, but instead, you gave me the best hug and said to me, OKAY DONNA, I KNOW YOU LEARNED A LESSON!

This one you shared with all of us ….

‘Morning, Time to Rise and Shine, greet the day with a smile!’ That was one of my favorites which you said quite often and personally after I got married and you would call in the morning with the same little ditty… I didn’t like that too much then…..Oh well, it was a mother’s love shining through!

Oh, I have to say this one….The first time you met Emily when she was a baby of about 4 months old and we came for a visit, she laughed almost constantly, she loved the Cat in the Hat puppet you gave her and she absolutely loved your soup!During that same visit, for your birthday I gave you $20.00 to play Keno but I kissed the money first and wished you the best to win, yahoo you won!

I thank you my momma for all of the beautiful moments you have given me, Gord, Erin, Natalie and Emily, we will forever hold them close to our hearts.

Much love mom to your heart from mine, I wish you Sweet Dreams,

your Donna XOXOXOXO
