It’s not easy to describe in a few words a person who, for about 15 years, made a tremendous impact on my life. Georgia never greeted me with just “hello,” but with a big smile and a big hug. There was never any doubt she was absolutely delighted to see me. We always parted in the same way—never with just “good-bye,” but with another smile and hug—and the moments in between were filled with laughter, fun, and at times, poignant conversations. Georgia lived for the moments she could spend with those she loved (which as far as I could tell, was everybody). Even when she could no longer speak, she continued to smile and laugh, and brighten the lives of those around her. When confined to a wheelchair in ManorCare, she continued to share her loving light, and despite her own suffering, found new ways to bring moments of joy to people who are sorely hurting. There isn’t a room or hallway that didn’t brighten when Georgia was in it. She was an incredible example of giving and out-going love. She truly lived Proverbs 18:24, and she is my sister, whom I eagerly look forward to seeing again.
