My great Aunt Geri was one of a kind. Strong, tenacious, funny, and passionate about caring for her loved ones. We had great fun exchanging books, puzzles, and recipes and even in her final days she was still beating us in Scrabble and Casino. I loved our talks and she would tell me and my sister stories about her life for hours! When she told us she was in hospice she said she had no regrets in life and got to do just about everything she wanted to do, what an inspiration! I will miss her dearly and hang on to those fun times we had together. I love you Aunt Geri, rest in peace dear friend!

Aunt Geri was such a one-of-a-kind woman; tenacious and meticulous in all that she did, whether it was taking care of those around her, grooming furry friends, or baking a coffee cake. Her loss is felt strongly, just as her love for those around her was. Our bond was special, I will miss our scrabble tournaments, cooking sessions, her life advice and wonderful stories. May she rest in peace, reunited with her dearly missed family and beloved dogs. May we take heart that our lives on this Earth are ephemeral, but our love for one another is eternal.

Jeff and Maureen, thank you for creating this beautiful website and tribute and for inviting me to Geris birthday party. As tears are rolling down my face reading these beautiful tributes and memories, I feel so blessed to have known Geri, Joyce and Iva. They were dear friends of my parents who have since passed away. Joyce would always bring beautiful roses to my mom from their yard and Geri and Iva would come visit my mom. Laughter was the best medicine and memories. What I remember most about Geri was my mom helping her smuggle her dogs on a plane under the seat. They were so proud of themselves with my mom being her accomplice. I'm glad Geri didn't ask my mom to help her rob a bank because my mom adored Geri and would have been the driver! Geri was a strong willed person in a good way and quite intelligent. She offered advice to me and always concerned about friends and me other than herself. Geri will be missed but reading these tributes just confirms how special she was and I'm so blessed to have known her. I will cherish the picnic picture and all the other pictures I took of her at her apartment. Rest in peace my dear friend and will miss you. Missy Baker

I met Geri at Pet Penache. She groomed three of my dachshunds and shared the heartbreak when each of them passed. I was heartbroken when she had to retire and was diagnosed with cancer. She was one of the kindest people I ever met. I hope Geri met Rambo, Mollie, and Lars at the Rainbow Bridge. Sympathy to her family.

My name is Jule Ziegler. Geri and Joyce were dear friends of my husband Tom and I. We first met Joyce when Tom needed a secretary for his law practice. We then met Geri when she started her grooming business. We have been close friends ever since. They were such wonderful sisters. We would go out to dinner or visit them at their house in Florida. We would have such a wonderful time with them. They will be in our hearts forever. Much love, Jule Ziegler

Geri was a wonderful woman. She was intelligent, generous, compassionate, empathetic, a perfect advocate for dogs, and a wonderful friend. Geri took great care of both of my dogs, Teddy and Mia, both when she groomed them and when I had I needed her nurturing nursing skills in dealing with my dog's bleeding stubbed toe or a mat that couldn't wait until next scheduled grooming. No one could be kinder to my dogs than Geri. I treasure the lessons she gave me in how to properly love a dog, making them as important as the people in my life. I enjoyed then, living down the street from her on Redwood. She loved the sun, her books, her puzzles, Joyce's bran muffins, and the passersby. She always had a friendly greeting and a smile. We checked in on each other with social distancing and masks during the long, isolating quarantine. I am so thankful to have met Geri and to have been a recipient of her wisdom in life. I will miss seeing her on my walks w/ my dogs. Im sending prayers for comfort to her family and other friends. She will be missed!

Geri and I met when both moved into the Echelon apartments. I was going through a difficult time, we became fast friends, and she was my rock. I only hope she knew how much our friendship meant to me. We stayed close even after we both moved out of the apartment building. She was truly a one of a kind special lady whom I will miss deeply. Until we meet again my dear friend. I love you. ❤️

I don’t have a lot of memories about the Hoskins side of the family living here in California all my life but what I do remember is when I got to visit with Aunt Geri how incredibly wonderful she was to me. She had a beautiful caring soul and I was beyond blessed to have reconnected with her before her passing. Her love of animals showed just what a compassionate person she was. I wish her love and light and one day we will be all together again. Thanks to my cousin Jeff for including me. Blessings and love to all.

Geri and her sister Joyce were our neighbors. We met Geri through her dog grooming salon and it didn’t take long for us to recognize that the pet came first with her and the customer came second. She was honest and straight forward, but also empathetic, caring and loving. Our friendship grew over the years and we became close friends. On this past Christmas Eve Geri called to tell us to be up at 8:00 am Christmas morning because she wanted to stop by. By golly, we knew we had better be awake and ready to answer the door at 8;00 am! While Geri sat in her car, her nieces were at our door with an absolutely beautiful floral painting that Geri had done for us. We are so touched to have such an amazing keepsake from Geri. We had it framed and Facetimed Geri two days before she died to show her how pretty it looks on our wall. The first thing she said was “Is my name still on it?” I zoomed in and told her we would never cover her signature. We will always remember this brave, kind, intelligent woman who was loved by so many people.

Geri and I were childhood neighbors and friends. We rode the same bus, were in the same class and graduated from high school the same year. We played cards and jacks , swam and enjoyed the creek across from our houses. That was many years ago but we were friends throughout. She was kind, intelligent, thoughtful and generous. Recently we were able to talk and say our final goodbye. I will cherish that last visit and always miss her.

Geri was the Nurse Executive at Jewish Hospital at the time I was pursuing a career in nursing leadership. I have to say that she was probably the most "colorful" nursing leader I ever worked with. I loved her energy, spirit, and ability to cut through the red tape to get things done. She had a knack for identifying people's skill set and putting them in positions where they would be successful. Geri was also brutally honest to the point that she told me one reason I was not given a promotion was that I "needed to learn how to write". At the time I was shocked and surprised but I took it seriously. It was a critical factor in my choosing to go to graduate school and ultimately have a successful career in nursing leadership. I am one of many who was better off having known her. I will have fond memories of her forever. I can recall her laugh and see her smile as I am writing this. Cheers to Geri!

I’m sorry to lose Geri as a friend. I know she is pain free and at peace. I met Geri as a mutual nurse executive. From the beginning Geri exuded generosity, intelligence and a canny perception of people’s strengths and abilities. Geri was very helpful to so many people in advancing their careers. Mentoring many nurses and others.  I worked with Geri for many years at the Jewish hospital.
When Geri returned to Cincinnati and began her dog grooming salon we resumed our friendship. We have lost a wonderful, giving human being. I will miss her but I know she is at peace. God bless and keep her. Jeff, you have earned your place in heaven . God bles and keep you.

I met Geri years ago since she was the sister of my secretary, Joyce. This led to Geri grooming our three long haired dachshunds. We became friends and I later did legal work for her. She was a strong person. A fighter to the end. I am happy she is now at peace. Tom Ziegler

We met Geri towards the end of her life but, It didn’t feel like it! She was just as vibrant as I imagine she would have been 20 years prior. She was an absolute gem! One of the best neighbors we were blessed to have so close to us. She helped to make our house a home. We would swap dinners and share sweets, she will be sorely missed. Love you, Geri

Our heartfelt condolences to Geri's family and all who knew and loved her.
Eric and I met Geri 20 years ago when we arrived at Pet Panache with our first Shih Tzu puppy looking for grooming help. In Geri's way, she gently took the pup from us, told us to "go away" and then she worked her magic. We knew we had met a unique person that day. It was the beginning of a long-lasting friendship that evolved into so much more. Geri became part of our family spending holiday celebrations, birthdays, weddings and showers with us and our sons Eric, Austin and daughter-in-law Hannah. The entire family adored her and her beloved sister Joyce. Geri and Joyce were affectionately known as "Godmother" and "Fairy Godmother" respectively to our sons and beloved Shih Tzu dogs, Jack and Stewie. When we and our dogs visited them at their homes in both Cincinnati and Florida, Geri and Joyce always made us feel at home. We would spend hours talking and Joyce would spoil us with her famous muffins.  Joyce's passing left a void in Geri's heart that would never be filled. However, Geri battled on in life facing many challenges with help from her dedicated family and many friends.  Jeff - you were a true Angel to Geri. Geri was incredibly intelligent, insightful, forthcoming, stubborn and determined.  She wanted things the way she wanted things without compromise. We understood Geri and loved her just as she was. She had great love and generosity in her heart. This past Christmas, Geri had no rest until she and her sweet Great Nieces, Katie and Jenny, came to our home and prepared a beautiful Christmas lunch for us. Geri was barely able to physically maneuver, but she was still able to boss us all around until things were exactly as she had envisioned. :-) We will forever remember that day. We will forever hold Geri in our hearts. We will miss her greatly and remember her with much love and gratitude for the wonderful person she was to us and countless others. She was a gift. May Geri rest in eternal peace, pain-free and reunited with her beloved family.
With deepest sympathies,
Eric and Tina Ernst

Thank you so much Jeff for setting up this website. Geri’s brother and I married in 1955 ,so I became a member of the family for 16 years. After our divorce we were estranged for many years until a friend set up a get-together with she, Geri and I. Needless to say I was very nervous. When she came to the door, we hugged and I knew everything was going to be okay. We went to lunch and had a wonderful time. Since then we have sent texts back and forth several times, the last one on Christmas Day. I will miss Geri as she was a wonderful friend. Rest In Peace My Friend.

Geri was my dear friend and neighbor for the past year and a half. She was always greeting my boyfriend and I with a smile and her natural spunk! I was so saddened and heartbroken when I heard she had passed! She will be missed, dearly. Michael and I will always remember our very special and first neighbor in our life together. We hope to be as welcoming as she was to us. I’m very thankful she became not only our neighbor but our friend. Rest In Peace Geri -Shelby and Michael

Geri, her dear mother Iva, and all of their family members were dear to my husband, Richard, our children Scott, Kate and Joe, and to me. For almost 50 years we shared birthdays and weddings and snow days and much more. We looked to Geri for wisdom and guidance. She knew she had loyal friends in us and we knew we had a strong and loyal friend in her. We will miss Geri.

First, Jeff, you've created a wonderful tribute to a VERY FINE and strong lady! Maureen has known and been very close to Geri since she was two years old. I met Geri many years ago when Maureen and I took a road trip back east and were traveling through Cincinnati. She and Joyce were living in a beautiful home in Batavia. After Joyce passed we visited Geri in Naples. She literally sparkled and took us around to see all of the local sites and eateries. (Yum!) She'd decided to move back to Cincinnati so we helped her pack. She was so gracious and appreciative I wish we could have done more. We were fortunate enough to visit her again last June when she met Maureen's sister, Sandy. The "girls" spent many hours together filling Sandy in on their childhood and adult adventures. I know Sandy loved Geri as much as we did. We were so happy to have had that one last visit together. Geri used to talk to Maureen by phone at least twice a month. I know that she is deeply missed.

Geri's Life Story

January 15, 2022
These are the Facts I received directly from Geri during our times together.

My Cousin/ My Sister

January 11, 2022
When I was 2, I was privileged to live with Geri and her family in Fairview, KY, then again when I was 5 and 10 at their farm in Seaman, OH, all three times for a year + each. Geri became the sister I craved throughout my childhood and will always be my true soul sister. My respect and love for her is eternal.

Later, I am blessed to have found my birth sister,

As Geri and I grew up together intermittently, we got on each other’s nerves and were jealous of each other for her Dad’s attention. Yet, we were close, we did our things together, we had great fun in the farm life. Part was going out to the Blackberry bushes to pick- Ouch. When we swam in the creek, she told me to stay away from the deep end because there were moccasin snakes there. Many years later, I asked her if that was true and she said yes it was. We both loved every animal and took care of them. Which continued throughout both of our lives.

Life takes turns for us all, and I lost visiting her for a while. Yet, we were always in contact, if only by letters. Later by visiting her in Cinci, Florida and again in Cinci, we came back to each other. With so many common qualities and thinking. Our connection became cemented. We are true spirit sisters.

Always Intuitive, Astute, Intelligent, Perceptive, Wise, Logical, Courageous and Forthright, an exemplary example to her family and friends with her perseverance, strength, caregiving and fortitude. She graced us all with gentle guidance, objective love and a great sense of humor.

She was never self-absorbed and self-serving, or right about everything! She never judged, and always offered an intelligent and objective view. Geri tells it like it is!!!With NO BS. She is my #1 Hero for her strength through her challenging illnesses. I am so thankful that her nephew Jeff was with her when she passed, and took great care of her- He is in God’s path.

Her quote to me when I asked was “I am always a patient, a nurse, a pet advocate and a caregiver” Yes, she was all of those and more. I am grateful and blessed that she was in my life. I expect her to greet me with that big smile when I transition. I Love you Geri.
