A few words about my senior Hun Sun

Da Hsuan Feng
Former M. Russell Wehr Professor of Physics, Drexel University

In 1976, I came to Drexel University as a visiting assistant professor of physics. Soon, I was introduced to a group of senior Chinese American colleagues. I soon realized that many of them all possess top-ranked academic pedigree and they came to Drexel University in the 50’s or 60’s.

Two especially stood out in my memory. One was Professor Peter Pei Chi Chou, a renowned mechanical engineering professor who joined Drexel in 1953. Peter came to Drexel University after receiving a Ph.D. from Harvard. The other one was Professor Hun Sun who came to Drexel University after receiving a Ph.D. from Cornell in 1950. It is perhaps not a coincidence that both Chou and Sun came to Drexel right in the middle during the infamous McCarthy Age!

No doubt that intellects like Chou and Sun were important components of the US-China history that should not be forgotten. Drexel should consider itself greatly blessed to have such world-class individuals to build its intellectual credentials.

I am so proud that one of my names, HSUAN, is the same as Dr. Sun. He was indeed an inspiration of the highest caliber....

Uncle Hun will be missed very much. He was a good, down to earth, decent and honest man who respected everyone and the law. He was a loving family man who cared dearly for family and friends. He was also generous and kind. He loved his classical music and had great interest in world affairs and the economy.
We loved him and will always remember him in our thoughts, hearts and prayers. May he rest in peace with his wife and with God.

Almost everyone can remember a special guider in his or her life, maybe parents, coach or middle school teacher, who left a deep mark in your mind, and influence you for the rest of your life.

To me, Dr.Sun was the one. Words can't express how much I thank you for what you did to help me when I was in Drexel.

Rest In Peace, Dr.Sun. You will forever be missed!
