Irene Kutach left this world a little richer, a little fuller, and a lot more hopeful than she found it. Surrounded by her loving husband Julius and her three kids, Ervin, Sharon, and Kim, Irene passed away peacefully in her home on May 25, 2023, having filled her 81 years with her amazing gifts. Irene’s death, like her life, was filled with grace and gratitude, caring for her family to her very last breath. Born July 18, 1941, Irene was one of eleven children and the oldest girl and grew up outside of Shiner, Texas. Life on the farm was hard, but in so many ways it made her who she was, confident in her ability, attentive to details, unafraid of hard work, knowing the importance of prayer, and ever ready to take the lead and make things happened. She had a power and confidence about her that allowed her to see beyond what was and imagine what could be.

In 1961, she married Ervin Knezek. She lost him in a tragic accident shortly after the birth of their son. Some of us are lucky to find love more than once in our lives. In 1966, Irene married Julius Kutach, also of Shiner. Their marriage of 57 years was one of mutual respect, playfulness, laughter, intimacy, taking care of each other, and commitment.

A graduate of St. Ludmila’s Academy and Baldwins Business College, she worked as a bookkeeper for most of her professional career. Ever attentive to details, she excelled at everything she tried.  But of her many accomplishments, her greatest joy was her family – her husband Julius, her kids and their spouses, Ervin (and David), Sharon, and Kim (and Martin) and her awesome grandkids Jonathan, Connor, Ashley, Jacob, and Victoria.

As she moves from this life to the next, she is surrounded by those who have gone before her – her parents Adele and Alois Pustka, her parents-in-law Julius and Agnes Kutach, Johnnie and Hattie Knezek, and brothers and sisters Louis, Jerome, Dennis, Gene, Adele, Mark, and Johnny and her first husband Ervin.
