His Life

North Tonawanda Fire Department

September 13, 2022

Fire Captain James Farrell (pictured below, 3rd from left).
Firefighter Farrell was appointed in August of 1962, and spent much of his time working at Engine 5.
He was promoted to Captain in charge of Training in January of 1978, before moving to an online position in March of 1980.
During his time with the NTFD he held other representative positions including Public Relations Chairman, Tonawandas Paramedic Committee, Niagara County, Great Lakes and New York State Emergency Medical Councils as well as other EMS committee positions.
Additionally, he was very forward and progressive thinking about EMS and in his position as Department Training Captain. He worked hard to move the department forward.
On October 24, 1983, after 21 years of service, Captain Farrell resigned from the NTFD to accept the Fire Chief position with the City of Canandaigua, NY.
From there he would go on to hold Fire Chief positions in Lake View, Illinois and Augusta, Maine. Wherever he went, he made the Department better places for both its' Firefighters and residents.
