On February 22 i was in Chicago for the Mid-Winter Meeting and i thought of the many friends i had made throughout my time in the dental business. I thought of the many activities i was involved with during the Chicago Meeting and i did take time to think about the many dinners at the Stanford home. Thank you John and Joan for your friendship.

I met John Stanford after entering the dental industry and participating in dental standards activity; he became a friend/mentor. He had the standards work so well planned that he made it fun. I offer condolences to Joan and his entire family.

I have not forgotten how John Stanford, with kindness and patience, helped me in ISO/TC 106. His stature within organized dentistry was without question. He will be missed by all of us. Sincere condolences to Sharon and John's entire family.

I met John Stanford when I first became associated with the dental industry in the mid seventies. His dedication,enthusiam and personable nature encouraged me to become involved with the standards setting process where I witnessed the tireless efforts of John's army of volunteers. John was a great world leader in the development of international standards for dental products.　Thanks to his warmhearted and enduring encouragement and support, the “ISO/TC106 Japan” has grown up to be quite visible on the global scene, for which we are very grateful. My thoughts and prayers are with Joan and the entire family on the passing of Dr. Stanford. John was a great support to GC and helped us achieve our ISO Certification. He was very successful with his career and specifically the remarkable contributions made at the ADA developing Standards that the worldwide dental industry could rely on. His friendship to GC will be truly missed.

John Stanford was an enabling supervisor, a patient mentor and a friendly colleague. The encouragement and support he provided me as CDMIE staff were influential in my work on standards as well as national and international science issues.

John inducted me to the "Standards" group at the ADA and showed what integrity, hard work, and ethics meant. What a great individual and he and his family know that he started a legacy (professionally and personally)that will live on. Truly a bright star in the night and he is in a much more comfortable home now.

I was saddened to hear of John's passing and my thoughts are with Joan and his children. I worked closely with John both during his time with the ADA and later when he came to GC as a consultant. My fondest memories of John are the dinners he hosted for the GC family. When I think of John I will always remember the man who helped me understand and better appreciate the work of the ADA

John was a great mentor to me since the late sixties.
He kindly introduced me to many interesting international venues such as
FDI committees, and ISO/TC106., and gave me priceless advice
throughout the years. 
The Japanese dental community has been greatly benefited from his willingness to share information and help others.
We will miss him very much.

The first time I met John was May in 1984 and then he supported me a lot during my stay at CDMIE Lab for one year. I had been enjoying meeting Joan and John every year at the ISO/TC106 Dentistry meeting until his retirement from the meeting. Grandpa John was an amazing man. He was one of the first people who saw me take my first steps and say my first words. I will always miss him. I love you grandpa John!

We are fortunate to have shared many positive experiences with John that were related to ADA and ISO activities. His advice and recommendations to us on development of ISO TC 106 international dental standards made our tasks less stressful and the process more efficient. We are grateful for the talent and expertise that he shared with us.

John was key to my experience in working with the ADA. As a graduate student at Northwestern, John was one block away and continually supportive. He always had time for me. He is part of the reason that I became involved in the ADA's efforts for standards and dental materials testing.
