Barry, you have been an exceptional teacher that I have had the opportunity to meet among the many who taught me, coming from different continents.
Although economics appears to many more of a theoretical subject, although the most practical in our life, you demystified it to the point that it became one of my best subjects.
This gave me the confidence that later on saw me teaching economics to undergraduates, a mere computer programmer when I met you in the UCT MBA class.
I will never forget your favourite small island with its small activities, among which the barber and his haircut services. You used this to make it so simple and easy digest these very complex concepts of economics revolving around monetary policy, money supply, inflation, interest rate, exchange rate, unemployment...
You had a special way of creating distinctions through situations that immortalize your explanation and therefore generating easy understanding and comprehension of the concept in discussion.
Your favourite mention of Ferrari to draw attention of aspiring rich that most of us were made it more interesting to participate in your classes.
Your focus on macroeconomic analysis and the many models you exposed us to made the subject such an easy grab. Without being an economics major, it became so much interesting that I went on to focus on industrial policy as a pick for my thesis. I have never looked back again.
Thank you for playing your partition so well Barry! We shall miss you forever! Go well Teacher, and may the Almighty Creator grant you eternal peace and rest! May He grant your beloved family the strength and courage to overcome this moment of separation.
