MY TRIBUTE TO YOU DADDY...

My father, my biggest inspiration and my best friend.

My heart is broken from this tragedy.
I don’t know what I will do without you. I will miss hearing your voice every day, your funny stories and laughing over our favourite movies and plays. I will miss sharing my creative and intimate thoughts with you and being able to ask for your advice. I will miss performing for you and seeing your smile beaming back at me and you getting up to hug me before I’d even finished each song. I couldn’t have prayed for a better father.
You always taught me the importance of creating a life that would outlive you and I’m proud to see that you accomplished that.
You taught me so much about character and integrity, developing and being dedicated to my craft, pursuing my dreams and living a life of wellness.
Your legacy will live on through your motivational teachings, compassionate charity work and the gift of your artistic craft that you shared. A role model to so many and my very own superhero.
I love you daddy and I will miss you...
Your baby,
Tolu

I never got to fully absorb your self control, discipline and focus, in all things, direct from you as I had planned. It was always a marvel to me to behold. I'll work ever harder to find that inner strength, even more now you are further, and I feel you encouraging me from beyond.
I know you were well on your way, in your journey to even more purity of body, mind and soul. We can't help but miss you, and morn the surprise of seeing you listening in the shadowed wings of a concert hall or just bumping into you in the bank - leaving every such encounter with you with nothing less than a grin of wonder! Blessed travels

I have never met him in person, but i have heard and read a lot about him. How sad, death took him before i could meet him in person, the closest i have ever been to him was IG chat, i am pained, my heart aches so much i wish i could turn back the hands of time. I regret not prioritising the need to meet you before your demise. SO LONG KAYODE, MAY YOU LIVE ON IN THE BOSSOM OF THE MOST HIGH.

My friend and counselor. I have always been enamored by your wealth of knowledge, the richness of your soul and how generous you were with it all through your compassion. The simplicity with which you navigated this world while staying true to yourself is enviable. I admire your commitment to your arts and your discipline in their pursuit and everything else which you believed in..... Thank you for your never ending wise counsels.....for being my safe haven.....that place I come to to rejuvenate my spirit. For always cheering me on and reminding me of my capacity. I hear you this moment.... your distinctive deep booming voice reverberating telling me "c'mon!!" When in disbelief or asking animately "are you serious" which you would repeat a few more times in different pitch or times when being dismissive with a flick of hand....the intensity in your gaze when discussing issues and your attentiveness when listening.... taking it all in and simplifying them. Your infectious smiles which you graciously shared with all (no exception) ..I have never known pain to a point where there are no tears to cry.....This would be a 1st....My wealthiest content friend, my soul is richer and life fuller because of your impact. May Almighty Allah forgive you your sins. You always seemed at peace. Continue to be as such.

I am shocked at the news of your sudden passing Coz! Oh! This is a tragedy! Just like yesterday, I remember all the 1990s memories shared in Ibadan with you, Aunty Viola and my Dad...now all of the blessed memories. "Life is short Godwin, make the best use of it while you can". That was what you told me last time we had that long conversation. Oh, Kai...you came you saw and you conquered. In my chequered past, the idea of your accomplishments invigorated my spirit and made me believe there could be light at the end of the tunnel. Since 1998, when you played your guitar for me and David at the Sheraton in Ikeja, I became inspired to learn and practise the art myself. You left too soon Coz...you left too soon!
I pray for your own Tolulope, that God of mercy will send his angels of comfort to console and guide and guard her through this time. May the good Lord be with your siblings (Tina, David, and Yinka) through this time.
Till we meet again my cousin and brother, rest in peace!

Dear Kayode, to say the news of your passing came as a rude shock is an understatement. It was just over a week ago when we briefly chatted over the Eid holidays. You were a special human being...full of life, bubbling with ideas and plans that were seldom about you, you really cared about people and were a helper and wise counselor to so many. You were likeable for so many reasons, Kayode. The way your eyes lit up when you smiled reflected how genuine you were and one always felt the warmth in the smiley faces you so liberally added to your WhatsApp messages because they were sent from a pure heart. You were totally devoid of airs and graces which was rare and refreshing given how much you achieved in life. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Tolu, you spoke about her with such pride whenever I asked after her. I pray that GOD will comfort and strengthen her and her Mom and your wider family and that their lasting memories of your uniqueness - especially the countless lives you touched with your unaffected approach to life, your music and your generosity of spirit - will help soothe the pain of your sudden departure. Amen.
Rest in perfect and everlasting peace, my friend, and GOD bless you.

Kayode,
My family and I will miss you. Thank you for Tolu, our dear “Ley Ley” who has been such a joy to our family. She and Nana are precious to us. Thanks for allowing my children and sometimes my husband and I to always share Ley’s birthdays with you when you were around. You were such a loving Father. You were kind to my children and even calling Jesse my son, your ‘Marvel Comics buddy’ on his birthday to wish him well. Joella was telling me yesterday of her long conversation with you after Leyla’s amazing performance a few months back. She talked about how you asked about every tiny detail of the performance. Jordan has great things to say about you too. Thank God for your life and the privilege of having met you.
Goodnight...

I’m lost for words Ky... I can’t believe you are gone my first love. Through the years we were married, through our challenges, through thick and thin you remained the head of our family and my friend. You always had the ability to make me laugh and see the bright side of things. You were there to keep the peace within our family unit. Thank you for being a good father and great role model to our daughter. I will miss you but thank God I will see you every time I look at Tolu’s face...

His Life

Kayode's Early Life – Growing Up

June 26, 2018
by T Fahm

Although born in Nigeria, Kayode left the country when he was just 1yr old and spent most of his early childhood growing up in Zambia with some brief stints in Kenya and Tanzania. His father was a UK qualified barrister and had taken up an appointment as a senior legal advisor to the Zambian Government. This was the golden age of his family life with expatriate privileges and so much carefree fun and adventure and it was also during this period that Kayode discovered Marvel Comics and the superhero.

At the age of seven, Kayode was sent, together with his siblings, to boarding school in England. Kayode and his older brother attended a prep school in Wiltshire called Prior Park where Kayode was introduced to a broad range of disciplines, one of which was music and the violin. Kayode took to the violin and played it right through to his late teens and up to grade eight. It was during this period that He also happened upon a fictional book in the library called Master of Kung Fu. Kayode did not proceed to the senior secondary school in Somerset like his brother did but attended a grammar school in London called St Marylebone which, being in the city, opened up different opportunities.

Kayode began to earnestly take up martial art studies side by side with his academic studies from the age of 11 inspired by the legendary Bruce Lee and the seventies Hong Kong cinema. He studied Wing Chun Kuen with Master Victor Kan, Muay Thai and Tae Kwon Do with Master Ken Wah and Wu style Tai Chi Chuan with Master Peter Chen Kayode also took up the viola from the age of 13 and played it side by side with the violin for about 5 years and researched and imbibed Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do concept in every aspect of his life.

After sitting and passing his GCE O and A-levels, Kayode decided to study Mathematics at Imperial College, London University. When He left for University Kayode decided that he had become somewhat bored of classical music and really did not want to play the violin or the viola anymore despite the fact that his school music teacher had told him in earlier years that he would end up a musician. During his undergraduate college years, Kayode started listening to Modern Jazz and Jazz Fusion and discovered artists such as Earl Klugh, Pat Metheney and Bob James, Kayode also taught Wing Chun Kung Fu and Kick Boxing after lectures and became interested in weight training.

1986 – 1995

by T Fahm

Kayode graduated from Imperial in 1986 with a B.Sc in Mathematics and a diploma from the Royal College of Science. Rather than do a Masters, He decided to join Arthur Andersen to gain some practical life and work experience and to start earning some money. Despite exposure to the Audit, Tax, Insolvency and Consulting divisions, Kayode found the work quite uninspiring and tedious and the long journeys (jobs) away from home (including the dojo and the gym,) quite unbearable. He left AA the following year to join Morgan Stanley as an associate in their derivatives division. This was his first exposure to the capital markets and to finance, as opposed to accounting, and Kayode really enjoyed the more dynamic environment and culture and especially took to the battlefield that was the financial markets taking place on the dealing room floors.

After watching Wall St, which had just come out, starring Michael Douglas, Kayode realized that taking calculated risk was the best and quickest way for him to achieve financial independence and pursue his dreams; he decided at this point that he wanted to ‘Trade’. This would prove elusive at Morgan Stanley, which was a blue blood firm with a very competitive culture. The opportunity would present itself 4 years later at Goldman Sachs, which Kayode joined in March of 1990. Goldman was just entering the European space and presented an amazing culture of excellence layered with humility and very effective teamwork. His outstanding performance soon after joining caught the attention of one of the Chief dealers in the Fixed Income division and Kayode was offered a position on the money market trading desk and later given the sole desk mandate to take proprietary positions (i.e. take outright risk) on currencies and fixed income instruments up to 2 years. Additionally, after many years of listening to guitar music, Kayode decided to take up the guitar, first learning the steel string method, which included chords, pentatonic scales and soloing, and later, when Kayode met Spanish guitarist Fernando Briones Villar, the classical approach, which was a major turning point in his life. Kayode had a very successful career at Goldman Sachs executing some of the largest transactions at the firm at the time, including two one Billion US dollar trades, and was made an Executive Director in 1994 at the age of 29. During this time, Kayode was also asked to speak regularly to new entry level MBAs from schools such as Harvard, Stanford and Wharton on the Capital Markets and how to trade them and held quite a number of stretching, relaxation and fitness classes, after markets had closed, in the in-house gym to help traders to better manage their exposures.

1995 – 1999

June 26, 2018
by T Fahm

Kayode was head hunted from Goldman Sachs by the National Commercial Bank of Saudi Arabia in 1995 to set up a Hedge Fund based out in Jeddah to trade the international capital markets on a global macro basis. This was a Greenfield start-up that involved setting up the business architecture, including the IT and Operational platforms, as well as the middle office, including Risk Management and Financial Control. The final step was to hire a team of seasoned local and international proprietary traders. With the stress of building and running a business, including managing people, the guitar became an outlet to escape, forget and express his feelings; his teacher Fernando had returned to Spain so Kayode commenced private studies with the late Richard Hand, of the Hand / Dupre guitar duo, who Kayode was introduced to and started visiting once a month for lessons in London.

Kayode would study with Richard for almost 14 years. Also during this period, he attended many leadership and people management training programs, workshops and seminars and ran many in-house and industry-wide capital market training courses. Kayode also taught mixed martial arts on weekends at a local sports club. This four year period in Saudi was the most challenging of his career, Kayode did not have the Goldman Sachs infrastructure, including tips from mentors and superiors to help support and guide him and very volatile financial markets tested his discipline and resolve, as well as his leadership and character, right to their core. It was an edifying period of immense personal, professional and spiritual growth.

Kayode Fahm was  one inspirational personality I longed to meet since the first time I read an article he wrote on career development in the now rested magazine " BOTTOM LINE" . I am very  shocked to have discovered today he passed on last year while I was researching on internet and came across someone else bearing his surname ( Abdulraheem Fahm of Visionscape). I suddenly remembered him and just typed Kayode Fahm into the browser search to check on what he is up to now and the first link that came up was this memorial site.  I can't just explain the motions now but rather than being demoralised I found greater motivation from the opening quote .You were a gift to this generation , to Nigeria, Africa and the world.  You life is an inspiration in being deliberate.,focused and passionate about the things we care and love. It is painful I never had the opportunity to meet you but I will always find consolation in the  legacy you have left behind for the world. May you worthy deeds keep resonating  to inspire all your admirers to leave the world a better place.RIP Mr Kayode FAHM.

Remembering Ky by Jack Kontou

October 13, 2018

I still can’t believe the news I received from my friend Paul (ky’s training partner).

Total shock, so, so sad.

I met ky back in the early 90’s in the gym training and we became friends from sharing the passion and love for the martial arts. We had many great conversations about martial arts and combat when he came to visit me at my Kung fu school. We also shared and exchanged many Kung fu films which we both loved. He had such a passion for life.

I will always remember he was a giant of a man with a smile to match.

Rest in peace my friend, you will always be remembered,my condolences to the family. Jack Kontou.

MR KAYODE FAHM, we meet in the church [The Elevation Nigeria]. then we became friends, he was a man of his word, a man with a large heart, a complete gentleman, always want the best for me and everyone around him. I remember when Tolu his daughter send him a song she was writing and working on, asking her daddy to listen to it and choose the best, we listen to it together and pick the best before I traveled when I came back you ask me to come and see you before you travel, I could not make it because I was tired and you said you understand, I told you we will see when you come back, I never knew that was going to be the end.
Mr. Kay, you told me you are going to Portharcourt, from there to London and back to Nigeria. I was wondering I did not hear from him since he told me he was traveling, I was trying to connect with him on social media but not successful after sending message, no reply, then I bump into this on google, OMG, am still in shock  I never knew that will be the end.

Tolulope may Almighty God comfort you and your Mum. May his gentle soul rest in peace
