Happy Birthday Mom
You lay beside me when I was sad or scared at night.
You caressed my back until I felt alright.
In your lap I drove the car.
Pulled over by police before getting too far.
The cool mom you were to my friends.
For many years your relations extend.
You helped me repeatedly with speeches and plays.
You gave me confidence in what I would say.
You saw my value that I did not see.
You nurtured character that was in me.
The great party host one would ever know.
Fun filled events, how far would they go?
Cooking together was so much fun.
Rarely a fight over method, often delicious when done.
So you had some issues as we all do.
It shouldn't deter a glowing tribute.
You overcame so much to get where you were.
Helping others along the way is what you prefer.
Your drive was so strong, hard to compete.
To best your record, would be a huge feat.
Your impact on others has been profound.
Leaving your mark, your contributions unbound.
From Knighthood to meeting governors and kings,
What you mean to me is a much simpler thing.
As a teacher you enlighten. As a motivator you inspire.
As a gardener you attend, like mother with child.
So keep dancing your dances, keep playing your songs.
We will dance with you, and we'll sing along.
Love,
Kristen
