Margery and I met as freshmen at Western Reserve University and became friends then She was one of the first to comfort me when my step-father died, and I have never forgotten her kindness. Although separated by time and distance, she will forever have a place in my heart.

As a new speech pathologist in the San Antonio ISD I met Margery at a speech meeting. She was very talkative and I thought to myself - this is a good trait for a speech therapist. She was always so helpful, friendly and kind. She had that bubbly personality that was a joy to be around - always upbeat and optimistic. I enjoyed her Christmas news letters. She had such a full and interesting life - always on to new adventures. She truly made a difference in the lives of many. I will always remember her with a smile and happy thoughts.  I did not realize that she was born on March 12th - the same day as my father.

You do not know me, but I did know your mom many years ago in Tenafly. She was a close friend of my sister, Bobbie, so she was about 7 years older than I am. One of my favorite memories was going to the large backyard on Westervelt Ave (all of one block from our home on Sussex), with my Dad, Bobbie, and my brother Carter, to pick out a pumpkin for Halloween. Your grandfather grew them and your mom would help pick them, display them and sell them not only to neighbors but to many people in town... "fresh, home grown in Tenafly" brought many customers, as did the plentiful crop.
At this time, I thought a new memory, a very happy one, might be in order.

I remember Margie and her enthusiasm. She had such a lovely smile that showed her joy for life. I remember the day when she and Herb were married. Their life together was one of mutual respect and deep devotion.

My Aunt Margie...such a dear sweet soul. Her heart was filled with love which she shared so freely not only with us but all those who crossed her path. My Mom, Margie, and Aunt Betsy are three of the most remarkable ladies I have been privileged to know. My sister Elisabeth mentioned the sweet notes Margie used to share. They have been missed these past several years, but in her typical "taking care" way Margie had announced in advance that her failing memory and health would not allow for them to continue. Typical Margie, always putting the concerns and needs of others ahead of her own. I will miss you Margie. I thank you for you loving presence in my life and I wish you peace. And may peace be with you, Jennifer and David, now and in the days ahead, like a river. And May your Mom's loving countenance always shine upon you. It will.

Margery and I met when we were 17 years old (well, I was 17 but Margie was 18) and were freshmen at Western Reserve University (now Case Western Reserve University) in Cleveland, OH. We were in the same dorm and became friends forever; lasted 55 years and weathered life changes but we were always on the same page. They say the best friendships can remain strong even if the friends may be apart for years. It never mattered to Margie and me; conversations began almost as if we were talking to each other the day before. Margie was so full of energy and enthusiasm, as others have noted. She also taught me to knit in the dorm, Mather House. I still have some of those skills to this day. She and Herb were my friends always and I am happy they are "together again". Rest well, my friend. I will love you always.

Hi Margie,
I miss you!! Looking at these photos, I am looking at my mom, at Betsy, at Oma, and our grandfather Hayes (who I never met). Looking at these photos, I see a mother who dearly loved her children, Jennifer and David. I remember clearly how proud she was of both of them. I remember how Margie sent a birthday card EVERY year, usually with a LONG ;-) warm, and loving note included. I remember visiting San Antonio and the Crystal Coast with Marge and Herb. I remember many, many family gatherings at Betsy and Bill's in White Plains and then again in Virginia when the Wessells lived there. Margie was a spark plug. I always think of her as young and energetic. I have missed her over these past several years due to her illnesses and distance from my home in NC. I have a photo of Margie, Herb, me, Dana, Susan, Chris, Betsy, Bill, Ann, and Lee all gathered at my mom's memorial service. I look at it every day - it is on my wall at work. I feel forever connected to Margie and to my Wessell cousins and to the Hayes sisters (as my brother, Chris, calls Pat, Margie, and Betsy). Thank you, Jennifer for this memorial website. Love, love, love, Elisabeth

Remembering Margery the first thing that comes to mind is that she taught me to knit many years ago when we were in the Air Force with our husbands.
Margery was always so friendly and we clicked from the very beginning. We kept in touch for lo these many years since then. She used to make the most fantastic Christmas cards every year
