I am so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. I met him years ago working on the Every 15 Minute programs at the local high schools and he also helped me with a video on the Maddi Olson Story - a project aimed towards middle school aged kids and wearing their helmets. He was also so nice and helpful. My heart is heavy today.

Two years already.....things go on for those of us still here, but you're never forgotten. Played a show recently and thought of you the entire time I was singing "Don't Stop Believing". ;-) Hope you're making lots of music wherever you are. Love and miss you my friend.

It can't be two years! I think of my friend, Mark pretty much daily, like every time a pun or word play passes between my teeth (which is a regular occurrence, thanks to Mark's influence. Mark was the master, and taught me the fun of language. Miss you always, my friend.

Thinking about you a lot this week Mark. Remembering the many shows we played and our talks about the struggles we shared. Singing a song for you today. Missing you but I know you’re making music somewhere and still watching out for your sweet Paula.

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already been a year since you’ve been gone. I just lost my brother a couple weeks ago and he was a bass guitarist, so I’m sure you’re both playing your guitars and singing up in Heaven. Miss you Mark

Happy birthday weekend love. I, just celebrated it by going to see your hero Mike Nesmith and the Monkees with Sofi and Rhonda. At one point near the end of the show, I felt Mark’s presence, and it made me cry happy tears. Watching Mike and Mickey as they looked at each other, then as they looked at the band, the. As they looked at the crowd and back at each other and pointed at each other…. Then Mickey touched his heart, I remembered Mark and I had several moments at one of our last gigs where we mentally communicated like that across the stage, ““We did this.  We created this band”. . then Mike Nesmith said a very humbling speech about when the crowd goes wild when he and the other walk on stage, and he still doesn’t understand why. That is exactly what Mark would’ve said, too… he would’ve insisted it was for the other band members.  . I Saturday, the girls and I had a very nice dinner and sang happy birthday to you! It was very happy….. I miss you Markie, but I still hear your wisdom and your funny jokes and you continue to make me laugh. So, thank you for that!  I love you! Happy birthday!

I think about you everyday at one point or another--usually a music trigger, or finding myself uttering one of your many quips. Never forgotten.

I met Mark through Paula, as she played music every night while I worked at Vail Ranch Steakhouse. Naturally, being a musician, I bonded with both Paula and Mark. He would come in just to sit and listen to his wife play. He always listened to me talk...because, for most of my life, this was a way to hide all the other battles I was personally having. Somehow, I think Mark always knew that. This past year has been traumatic for everyone, but even as I would come to their house for piano lessons, Mark was wasting away...and yet, he still listened with enthusiasm. I could see him getting weaker, and I could see it weighing on Paula. It was in the last conversation I had with him that I realized, I talk too much. Here was a guy that was literally fading away, could barely stand, and still, he was there for ME. In all this, I was growing in ways no one could know. But I watched Paula...and her boys...always smiling, always finding joy even while I could see their hearts before me, breaking as he faded. Mark was kind, and brilliant, and he had a generous spirit that embraced broken people in the humblest of ways. Paula and Mark were a team, I could see that. My prayers go up for Paula and their boys as they dicover their path without Mark. He would've held anyone up, and I'm sure he did for all his family. I believe with all my heart we are never given more than we can handle. It was a blessing and an honor to have met him, called him friend, and had him to lean on...even if just to listen. He will.neber know how much I cherished his offering of profound wisdom and encouragement. May we meet again, brother. You will be missed, but certainly, not forgotten.

Mark was always such a kind and funny person to be around, even when you knew he was hurting or dog tired, he could make you laugh. Long ago days of dropping kids off to hang out, only to spend a while chatting about everything under the sun with Mark, are fond memories. Those old ties are never forgotten. I’ve kept tabs on Mark mainly through Jaren, and I know he did the same. The wonderful pictures are so great to see; so many smiles and good times. But it sure seemed like there were more to be had, and I am so very sorry to hear of Mark’s passing. May he Rest In Peace. May happy memories bring comfort through the heartache to all the family as you mourn the loss of such a good man.

Our dear friend Mark! What an absolutely amazing guy. I was first introduced to Mark about twenty-five years ago when our company hired him for his video skills. It soon became obvious to me that Mark is a brilliant, honest, caring, creative and talented guy. I, also, had many, many occasions to drive to different locations with him. I always looked forward to having conversations with Mark about music, video production, or life in general. He was the best guitarist I have ever met in my life. I really love Mark, and I miss him terribly already. I am so glad that he had wonderful Paula to be with him.

I think fondly of conversations with Mark. Driving together in traffic from Murrieta to Orange County for rehearsals years ago. Mark was a pleasure to talk with, to be with, and to play music with. He is a generous soul. All my love to his brilliant sons and to the whole extended family.❤️❤️

My friend, Mark Cloud. For me, your name is synonymous with living life, loving people, and making music. I am blessed to have called you "friend" these many years. The memories are too numerous to recount here, but suffice it to say they are rich and forever treasured. I'm so thankful to have shared a fair chunk of the ride with you (especially in your folk's Ranchero, on the way to another Hurricane practice...in the snow...at night...on some unplowed Big Bear backroad).

Few days have ever gone by, that some memory of shared escapades, some mutual musical moment, or some Mark-ism doesn't float across my mental monitor and tug a smile at the corner of my face. Just last Saturday, my grandsons and I watched Abbott and Costello's "Who's On First," reminding me of another distant Saturday, and the hours it took trying to record our own version of the skit for one of your college classes (I made a pretty weak Bud Abbot, but as you always did, your positive encouragement and patience got me through...and of course our laughing at ourselves until we cried)--priceless.

In the days to come, may the Lord's comfort & strength be felt by Paula, by your family, and by your army of friends. You are missed.

I just turned on Sirius and the extra long version of Hotel California began. (Back in the 2000's Mark was a member of DGQ). How appropriate. My favorite song to watch Mark show his incredible skills on his guitar. Nothing short of amazing!
Mark and Paula opened their arms and hearts to me after my messy divorce, I don't think he ever know what that meant to me.
Mark was the most humble man I've ever known.

I have spent years listening to stories about "uncle" Mark and his talents. I wanted to take the time to send my love to the entire family. Rich constantly shares stories of the music Mark shared. Please know that Mark will always be in our memories. Rich always wanted to visit and talk with Mark and to reconnect with his cousins. He will always be missed. Rich is very saddened by the loss of his uncle.

Mark spent the last week of his life surrounded by family, friends, music, and lots of love.

There will be many people sharing stories about him because he had endless amounts of friends and fans. Mark was a gentle, quirky, funny guy who would happily hand you the t-shirt off his back or his most prized guitar out of its case if you needed it.

We spent years on stages together. We played to ten people and we played to thousands of people. It didn’t matter because we just loved to perform. Mark was one of the most humble musicians I’ve ever met, and together with his partner Paula, some of my best musical memories were made.

When I told them I was divorcing my then-husband and came out publicly as part of the LGBTQ community, Mark and Paula were part of a small group of people who offered love and support. Being able to make music with them and knowing they accepted me helped save my life during an incredibly dark period.

I was able to spend some time with Mark during his last months. I will forever treasure our deep conversations and watching the Spinal Tap movie (his favorite) one last time.

Rest In Peace my friend. I'm going to miss you.

His Life

The beginning of Mark and Paula

March 30, 2021
Mark and I met through the Broadway High Theater Academy in Murrieta, CA.  I was the Musical Director, and Jaren was playing the saxophone in the youth orchestra.

During a rehearsal one afternoon,  Drummer Tom Korner and I were discussing creating a band to showcase the kids, specifically Kristina and Jaren. Jaren mentioned that his dad played the guitar.  When Mark came to pick up Jaren from rehearsal, I motioned for him to come over.  (Mind you, I never met Mark before.) I said,  “I hear you’re holding out on me.”  Mark was taken aback.   “I hear you play the guitar.”   Mark smiled and said, “I dabble with it.” He then proceeded to tell me that he loved my original CD, and that he listened to it a lot.  I asked if he had any CDs, and he humbly answered that he had 5.  When I suggested we play together sometime, he said he would be honored.   Again, I was intrigued.

He gave me his website address, and I promptly went home from rehearsal and looked it up  I studied and thoroughly enjoyed the site. (Side note:  His website inspired me to fall in love with creating websites.)

When that show was coming close to “performing week”, Mark began coming to the nightly rehearsals backstage, bringing meals to us, and I found myself looking very forward to seeing him.  I felt a very strong connection forming.  Between the Saturday shows, at a dinner break, I ran into him, his in-laws and a girlfriend.  I was completely caught off guard.  I absolutely did not see that coming.   I awkwardly excused myself and went back to the theater, where I confided in friends how shocked I felt.  My friend Norm reassured me that “whoever she is, it’s temporary because he is into you.”   That evening, I knew I needed to say something because my instincts were never that far off.   I went home and emailed him, “thank you for all you did during the show, Jaren did a super job, is that your girlfriend?”   In the morning, I received his response email saying that it was his honor being backstage, that he thought those production days were over for him.  He was grateful for everything I had done to help his son, and yes, the girl he was seeing was on and off for a few months, but now he’s met an amazingly beautiful woman who he would like to get to know better.  But he needed to do the honorable thing and end things first.   I was so elated.   And relieved.

Saying goodbye after the final show, we looked at one another, barely talking,  because we both felt like we’ve known each other before.  And shortly after Thanksgiving, (less than a week later) he emailed to let me know he had broken things off.  The connection was already made, and we were already together in our hearts.  We hadn’t seen each other since the show, but when we got together after that email, it was like we always were

Wonderful Memories

Rest In Peace Dear Mark. I was blessed to know you. No more suffering. You are now in a beautiful place called Heaven
I had the pleasure of singing in the band “Damn Good Question” for 6+ years with Mark who played the rhythm guitar up in Big Bear and beyond...I will never forget those times ❤️ I also went over to Mark and Paula’s house a few years ago and they recorded me singing “I hope you dance” by Leann Womack dedicated to my daughter Lauren for her wedding. Paula played the piano and Mark played the guitar. I was able to play that recording to a slideshow at her wedding, what a magical time and such beautiful memories You Mark were a blessing to all that knew you!! Such a wonderful, funny, caring man with such a beautiful heart ♥️ I love you Mark and Paula. Thank you for all the memories  ❤️ God Bless and RIP my friend
