Last summer Marty learned that I would be driving by myself from Oregon to Southern California just after I had reconstructive surgery on my shoulder. He took it upon himself to purchase a one way plane ticket to Medford so that he could drive with me and I wouldn't have to make the trip alone. 

We spent 14 hours in the truck just talking about any and everything that came up. Navigating life choices, mistakes, accomplishments, discussing law, mechanics, and even love. His selfless act of going on this trip with me is and forever will be one of my most favorite memories of Marty. He was so smart, funny, and had an endless kindness about him. 

Oh Marty this breaks my heart...My last name was Buchanan. My brother Mike and I would be down at the Loppnow's it seems like daily playing ping pong in their garage. Marty was always the kindest, calmest, and funniest guy. I remember one time I had a date for the prom and the person I was going with ended up in the hospital and I wasn't able to go and my mom said you should ask Marty to go with you. I thought I can't ask Marty he is like another brother to me. My thoughts are with all of his family. Lisa Buchanan-Biedermann

When we were growing up Marty loved his grandfather Loppnow, who would always give him some change.  When grandpa died Marty walked up to his casket at the viewing and it was very quiet, and then we heard a "clink".  Marty had dropped a nickel into the casket for his grandfather.
