Mary Helena Augusta Scotland née Dublin was born in Swetes, Antigua.She was the daughter of Roy Dublin (an Antiguan headmaster, poet and musician) and Rachel Dublin née Royer (a Dominican school teacher).She had one sister, Haytheline (Helen) Dublin.
Mary and Jasper (Bobby) Scotland (
jasperscotland.forevermissed.com) were married on February 8th, 1962 at the Tyrells Roman Catholic Church in Antigua. Together, they parented five children: Robert, Sandra, Hélène, Jo-Anne and Nigel.
She was an active church member, and served the community with commitment and enthusiasm – visiting prisoners in their cells as she shared God’s message; spearheading an Alpha programme to encourage conversations about the importance of faith and the need for love and tolerance; helping others through her involvement with the Society of St.Vincent de Paul.And so much more.
Throughout her life, she resided in Canada, Guyana, Barbados, the United Kingdom, Antigua & Barbuda and Dominica. She was a teacher, graduating in business studies from Ryerson Polytechnic in Toronto.
At the end of her life, her final words were:
“Holy Mary, Mother of God. Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death”.
