Matt's Journey

September 18, 2012

Matt Vidulich was born on January 19th, 1981 in Madison, Wisconsin to parents Toni and the late Joe Vidulich.  Matt was called home for his final rest on Friday, September 15, 2012. Matt is survived by his mother, Sister Megan, Aunts Alice and Cindy, Uncles Dan and Jack, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. The Vidulich family recently lost Matts’ younger brother Brent in December of 2011.

Matt was educated in the Madison Public School System and graduated from East High in 1999.  He went on to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire to pursue a Bachelors’ of Science in Political Science. After completing his education Matt worked for The United Way of Dane County, WI as a community building coordinator.  Matt helped to coordinate the County’s Youth Service Day and served on the advisory committee addressing domestic abuse and health issues.

In 2005 Matt moved to Oakland CA to work as Program Coordinator for the National AIDS Marathon Training Program. He played an instrumental role in coordinating both fundraising, event planning, and operational aspects for nine marathon events which spanned the globe from Italy to Ireland, Hawaii, Las Vegas and Miami.

When the AIDS Marathon Training Program closed the Oakland office in 2008, Matt went to work as project manager for We Feel Fine We Feel Fine, an online art project that amalgamated various blogs and websites to create an exploration of human emotions.  Matt also assisted in the creation of the well-publicized book also named We Feel Fine.

After living and working in Oakland for four years Matt moved to Washington DC in 2009 to serve as Relationship Manager, Clubs and Organizations for The USO. Matt applied his proven marketing and developmental skills to help launch TeamUSO.org  a website created to promote awareness of The USO’s work in the community.

Matt’s most recent position was as project manager for Concepts, Inc. Matt managed content, communications, and outreach efforts for the National Resource Directory (NRD), a joint effort among the Departments of Labor, Defense and Veterans Affairs to provide support to the wounded warrior, Veteran and military communities.

Perhaps the best career description comes from Matt’s own LinkedIn  profile:

“A communications professional who brings 10 years of proven experience in developing successful communications strategies, a strong background in community building, partnership development, fundraising and outreach, and effective negotiating and problem-solving skills.”

An avid outdoor athlete and music lover , Matt loved his Green Bay Packers, The Big Ten, and the band Kingsley Flood.  Matt was an understanding, loving and caring person who devoted his life to helping others achieve success and stability.  He treated everyone with the same level of respect and warmth rarely extended beyond immediate family members.  Matt was always there for family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
