Nick’s Obituary

Nickolas John Herringshaw, age 36, born March 28th, 1980 died at the home of his parents from complications of cancer on March 29, 2016 in San Antonio, TX.  He was hospitalized for several months at the Oncology floor at the University Hospital, San Antonio, TX.

He is survived by his mother and father, Cheryl and Ken Herringshaw in San Antonio, 3 brothers, Scott (Midland, MI); Darren (St Charles, IL) and Andrew (Midland, MI), one niece, Hailey Herringshaw (St Charles, IL), step grandparents, Jean and Floyd Meddaugh (Midland, MI) and several aunts, uncles and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his twin brothers, Timothy and Thomas (Midland, MI) 1969.

In about the last 3 weeks of Nick's life he became very interested in a movie called "War Room".  The "War Room" was actually a large empty closet converted to a prayer room.  This movie is a powerful dramatization of the power of prayer.  Nick first became aware of the "War Room" when he was last hospitalized and watched it many times.  He said that when he got home he wanted his own "War Room"  so we accommodated him with that on his birthday.

Another movie that Nick really enjoyed was a comedy called "Blended".  This was about a widower and a divrocee that went on a dinner date.  Decided that right then and there that things weren't going to work out.  Through a series of circumstances, each family wound up going to the same African family safari unbeknown to the other family.  The two families eventually become "blended".  One of Nick's desires when he was sufficiently healed from the cancer was to marry into a ready-made family and become the best husband and father that anyone could want.  Unfortunately, that didn't happen here on Earth.

Seasons Hospice was contracted less than one week prior to Nick’s death.  Their organization provides many features one of which is Music Therapy.  A young lady, Kaitlyn, with a beautiful voice played guitar and sang a couple days before Nick’s death as well as just after.  Songs included Amazing Grace, All Is Well With My Sole, In The Garden and Adelweiss.  Everyone was very touched.

Darren and his wife, Nadene, were present at the time of Nick’s death along with his parents.  Darren arranged for a Pastor to come and pray with Nick.  Nick died minutes after the Pastor left.  Final funeral/memorial services are not complete at this time (04/01/16).  Should you care to leave remarks online, you may do so at http://nickolas-john-herringshaw.forevermissed.com

Nick was good at a lot of hands-on activity including finish carpentry, painting, artistic with food and landscaping, various restaurant positions, videotaping/editing.  Nick enjoyed working with his father doing handyman projects and politics. He attended Columbia in Chicago and graduated from Illinois Center For Broadcasting in Lombard, IL

We would like to express our deep appreciation to the following agencies that have provided help in Nick’s months of need: Seasons Hospice; AARC (Alamo Area Resource Center); FFACTS Clinic; Project Mend;
