BIOGRAPHY OF PA BAIYE JOSEPH KEBUA BATUO

March 15, 2021
Pa Baiye was born around 1948 in Mamboh Village, in present day Upper Banyang Sub-Division in Manyu Division, South-West Region of Cameroon to Ma Ndakoso Lydia, a princess of the Mamboh Royal Family and Ta Kebuayang also of Mamboh. He lost both parents at the tender age of six and was raised by his uncle Ta Baiye Martin, who took him to Mpundu to start primary education. Here his performance was very outstanding as he was always first in his class.

Following the death of his uncle, the young Batuogo Joseph went back to Mamboh where he was raised by his new mother Ma Akung Sophie and his new father Ta Alemfac all of blessed memory. He continued his studies at Takwai Primary School where his outstanding performances warranted his direct promotion from Standard 2 to Standard 4 and he still topped his class. Thereafter he moved to Native Authority School Fontem where he continued to lead in class until he obt ained his “Standard Six” First School Leaving Certificate.
Upon graduating from school, another uncle, his namesake Ta Batuo alias ‘‘Nyah Moo’’ of blessed memory, took him to Victoria (present day Limbe) and trained him as a typist-stenographer.

Joe Batuo was recruited as a telegrapher by the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) and it was during an offshore duty that a senior staff informed him about the launching of a recruitment into the West Cameroon Police Force. He registered and sat for the examination and passed with flying colours. He majored during his Mutengene Police College days until graduation where he emerged as the best student of his batch and received an award from the then Prime Minister of West Cameroon, His Excellency Solomon Tandeng Muna.

Baiye Joseph Kebua was posted to Kumba and a few years later to Tombel where he served as a constable until 1976 when he went in for the competitive examination to become a Brigadier o f Police, as it was the nomenclature at the time. This rank was later changed to Inspector of Police.

In 1978, Brigadier Baiye Joseph Kebua was transferred from Tombel to Muyuka where he was appointed Assistant Chief of Post. He served in this capacity till 1985 when he was transferred to Mamfe and later Ekok in the same capacity. He worked intermittently in these two localities and briefly in Fontem until he went on retirement in 1998 as Senior Police Officer.

Upon retirement ‘‘Officier de Police’’ Baiye Joseph Kebua fully indulged in business that he had embraced, to make ends meet, since his Muyuka days in the transport and timber business sectors.

During his police service days, he invested in building rental houses in Muyuka and Mamfe. He was made popular in Mamfe because of the hostel he constructed for GHS Mamfe students. The hostel was called “DIFFERENT WORLD” after a movie series that was popular at the time. In fact, it was and still is one of the best, if not the best, “mini-cité” in Mamfe. Pa Different World also operated an off-licence bar/restaurant in Ekok since 1996. His latest business investment is the famous “Tina Hotel” he built in Ekok in 2004.

In his spiritual life, Mr. Baiye Joseph was initially a Catholic Christian but he later converted into a Baptist Christian. Though he was married to two wives he remained a devout Christian all his life.
Pa Baiye was married to two wives. He got married a few years after joining the Police Force to Ms. Lydia Enowbi Tanyi in 1970 and to Ms. Alice Agbor Akombi in 1983. He was the father of 14 children and the grandfather of 32 grand kids.

Besides the foregoing, he leaves behind a brother, many relatives, in-laws, friends and well-wishers to mourn him.❤
