Tribute to Dr. Peter Kang
I know Dr.Kang the time I was about to get married with Eun Hee some time in Dec 2015. The first time we met was supposed to be at the Suvannabhumi airport in Bkk, Thailand. That is I was supposed to be the pick up man for Dr.Christina and Dr. Peter who were visiting us as our parents' friends, Dr.Kim Chongpae and Pastor Mayuree. However, Eun Hee and I were late in being there and since we could not contact each other, Dr. Peter took the taxi back to his hotel by himself. So the first time we actually met was at the hotel and not at the airport. And the first word I say to him was "sorry" instead of "hello". But it was the beginning of our relationship. It began with my exposed weakness that met with his grace and forgiveness.
Dr Peter became our mentor and counselor for our marital preparation. He helped us script out our marriage vow. He mediated between our parents to help the two families really enjoying peace before we entered the ceremony. There are so many incidents I cannot retell all right here that Dr.Peter and Dr.Christina made such sacrifice for our families.
His friendship and dedication to us though we just knew each other speaks of God's kingdom value that in Christ we are one family. Family that is not bonded by blood but by faith and he counted it worth the sacrifice. Thank you to Dr Peter's family for all your sacrifice so he could be a gift to the family of Christ in the global scale.
He was the one who gave the message on our wedding and he stayed on with us even during my time on the field. There was a time when he met with me and EunHee weekly through zoom even to about Nov 2020. Because of the time different, it means 5 or 6 AM his time, he would meet me with his Americano to help me grow. Throughout our meetings, there were times that I forgot our appointments or turned up late. Yet Dr. Peter was patient and still not giving up on me. His life demonstrates love in action through patience, forgiveness, hope, sacrifice and dedication.
Dr.Peter was also the most encouraging man I ever know. Speaking to him and he would encouraged and encouraged till I feel awkward but fulfilled because it is not common in the Asian home to receive so much encouraging words yet we so desperately need such words of encouragement in our daily battles in lives.
Thank God for sending Dr.Peter to the world for His mission. Thank God for sending him to Thailand and to my family. His work and prayer in my life and marriage is his contribution to the work I serve in Khon Kaen and Nakhon Phanom. The mission home in Khon Kaen still has his name on the wall. The kitchen counter was ordered to be made higher than the usual height to fit his tall feature but while this kitchen was being renovated, the Lord took him Home and let him have the best kitchen and furnitures before all of us. His work is finished but it is for us to continue. May this time of remembering the great man of God be a reminder for us to carry God's message on as long as we live.
Till we meet again
