The news of Peter's passing came as a complete shock weeks ago now. My heartfelt well wishes go out to his entire family. Losing someone so dear is truly hard but be assured that he is now in a better place. Our understanding will take time. I would like everyone to know that when I lost my father, Peter stepped in and extended his guidance that helped me through those very troubled times. Not only has the family lost one of it's dearest members but we too have lost a colleague, a true friend, mentor and most of all to me, a second father.
His vitality and sense of being were larger than life, as was his overall persona. I am so very fortunate to have visited with him over the recent past. Susan and I had spent time with him a few years ago for a weekend while in Europe. It was as if the years had no effect on him. He was the same Peter that took me under his wing nearly a quarter century earlier. Then, showing me the 'real' side of business, one that cherishes and honors relationships, one that helps defines one's character and authenticity, one that wouldn't be the same if he wasn't in it. Lately, his relentless pursuit of in-depth research for family roots and constant giving back to the local community by supporting the local clinics. Not once was tired used in retirement! He was as active and energized as ever.
It's still hard to imagine he's gone but his footprint will never be forgotten. I'm struggling to put into words the true impact Peter has had in many lives, especially my own. But my story is just a dot on the page where a book can surely be written. Heaven is now reaping the benefits where the world has lost, but not forgotten, his everlasting impact.
With deep sadness - Karl.
