His Life

Summers in Savannah

Ryan spent part of every summer at his grandparents house on a lake in Savannah, Georgia. Ryan was an excellent swimmer and would often swim out to a sandbar in the middle of the lake on his own. At the sandbar, he would play games -- like tag -- with his Uncle Robert, Cousin Tyler, and his 2 brothers. There was also a rope swing at the lake and Ryan would frequently swing out as high as he could and then jump in the water. He was fearless -- often jumping from a platform in a tree high above the lake. Ryan also enjoyed other water sports to include jet skiing, knee boarding, and inner tubing on the Ogeechee River in Georgia, as well as boating and going to the beach.

Scouts

Ryan was a Cub Scout for 5 years with his father as the Den Leader, and he was a Boy Scout for 3 years.  He especially enjoyed outdoors activities such as camping.  We were very proud of the values and independence that Boy Scouts engendered in Ryan - for example, he would attend camping trips even through bad weather - rain, snow, etc.  Ryan often helped cheer up or entertain the other scouts in his troop by singing songs and playing games.

Ryan participated in First Lego League's LEGO Robotics competition over three seasons.  His primary interest was creating and directing the scripts that the team performed for judges.  These scripts enabled Ryan to use his creativity and presentation style to convey the team's work at the regional qualifiers.
