His Life

In loving memory of Sam Grant

March 22, 2021

Samuel Odell Grant, Jr. left this world for his heavenly home on 18 March 2021. “Sammy”, as he was known by his family, was born on September 29, 1958 in Killeen, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Odell Grant, Sr. and is survived by his mother, Jeanne Grant Gautier, and his sister Lisa Grant and Patty Frasher. Sammy adored his family; his son Samuel Odell Grant, III and Mary Jo, and his daughter Brittany Nolen and Chris Nolen. He is also survived by the love of his “grandbabies”; Clara (aka Sweetheart) and Jesse (aka Dude) Grant, and Mikaela and Delilah (aka Princess) Nolen.

Sammy graduated from Austin High School in 1977 and enjoyed woodworking projects with his father becoming a third generation craftsman and master carpenter, and traveling the country attending art shows with the family. He enjoyed baseball and everything Texas, and was a lifelong Longhorn fan. Ever since he was a child, Sammy could not stay still for very long. Whenever he could, he loved getting into adventures with his sister, his cousins, and his many neighborhood friends on Pete’s Path. Sammy adored his children teaching them everything he could about fishing, hunting, baseball and good sportsmanship. He coached Odell’s Little League team for many years. Sammy loved being with his family, especially his “grandbabies”. He loved being outside and sharing his love of good food and music with his family and friends.

Sammy was a gentleman who had a warm heart and a kind spirit. He was tough as nails on the outside, but always sweet and gentle on the inside. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was one of the good guys.
