Mama Deji,

I was 9 or 10 years old when we first met. Almost immediately, we established a bond. I cherished visits to Lagos, Ibadan, Palmgrove, Ilu-Peju, Ikoyi, and Abeokuta. During those visits, I remember the big cups of tea, bottles of Fanta or Coca-Cola. Mama Deji / Auntie, those are moments that I cherish and will never forget.
Although you never met in person, you created a lasting connection with my wife and children over the phone. Those countless phone conversations and their impact will never be erased.
Thank God for giving us the opportunity to have crossed paths on this Earth. Hallelujah to God who's able to do all things.  Sun ree o, sun ree o. A o pade lo do Jesu. We love you, but God loves you more. To God be the glory. Sun ree o, sun ree o.

Sincerely Yours,
Shegun, Christy, Selinah, Kemi, and Deji

Dear Simbo,

One of the sweetest and kindest ladies that I have ever known. Simbo's
face would light up whenever she spoke of her sons and grandchildren. She was the perfect and most loving mother, wife and friend and we will always remember her and

My memory of you is your smiling face, kindness, beautiful disposition, and love. You were one of the loveliest people I have been privileged to know. I called you mummy, and indeed you were to all of us - friends of your children. We all loved you.

So mummy, you will be missed, and will be remembered with the fondest of thoughts. My comfort is this: you knew and loved Him, and have gone to be with Him.

Mummy, we now accept the reality that you are gone now that i have to write a tribute on you. Mummy, you were a great mum, strongly committed to your family and children. Soft spoken, humble, caring, and genial. When I met you and dady in 1977 I mentioned to my fiancee then that your family will be my model in marriage. You raised four great men who have also become greater men and are mentors to our children. Mummy, you were in Abeokuta a few months back and we spoke on the phone lovingly as usual. Your sweet soft voice still resonates in my ears. We will miss you. Deji and brothers and their families will miss you but I know they will celebrate your invaluable contribution to their life. Dady will miss you but i pray that the Lord will comfort and strengthen him. The world has lost a great and special woman. May your gentle soul rest in eternal peace. Amen

Mama, we are still in shock that you have left us. We just have to accept the inevitable and we do so with a grateful heart to God who has decided to call you home. Your gentle personality, your love and care, and your genuine interest in us and for us will forever remain in our memory. You are unique and special to us, more than any word can express. Yet, despite our great loss, we thank God for giving us the opportunity to know and relate with you. We love you well but Jesus loves you best and has decided it's time to be with Him. Sleep on and rest in perfect peace in the bosom of the Almighty God. May He give strength and comfort to Baba, Deji, Koya, Kunle and Gboyega at this difficult time. Amen.

Mama,
We are all missing your gentle smile and soft voice, which have been your trademark ever since I knew you.
You were a vibrant soul, one who literally lit up the room whenever you entered. And right up until you became less able to get around, full of joy and always eager to offer an advice, no matter what the problem was.
My lasting memories of Mama are simple: gentle personality, kindness, passionate figure of strength who never waned in her support or love of her family and who soldiered on, even when times were tough.
I am highly privileged to know this wonderful lady.
Adieu, great mama! May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

Coconut Candy & Smokes!

November 5, 2020
Aunty,

Its been 4 years already? I really wish you were here to hear this fun memory. Kunle, Koya and I used to take over your kitchen in Agbowo from time to time. One of those occasions we made coconut candy and burned the pots quite badly. I remember us trying to scrub the pan before your return - we were still in staff school UI then. The memory I would never forget involves the tobacco. We tried to make cigarettes from the dried tobacco leaves from the garden. On this occasion I took a bic biro, removed to ink cartridge and broke it into the length of a cigarette. I stuffed in dry leaves one end and cotton wool the other and set fire to the other end. Of course it was burning tobacco and fumes from melting plastic I inhaled - my chest, eyes, throat burned so badly and I was probably asphyxiating as well! When I could finally breathe I never touched a cigarette in my life to this day!! I guess it is fun to remember those times and fun to remember you in that setting. May the good Lord make it possible for us all to meet again in eternity.

Best regards,
Soji APAMPA
