Stanley R. Moen, age 69, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2020 in Chicago, IL.

Stanley was born on September 6th, 1950 to John and Judith Alice Moen (Johannesen) in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in a loving family with his two older brothers, Kenneth and Herbert Moen.

After graduating from Martin Van Buren High School, Queens, NY in 1968, he went on to study Spanish and Secondary Education at Trinity International University, Deerfield, IL.

After graduation, he taught at Salem Christian School in Chicago IL for 5 years and then transitioned to using his bilingual skills as a Sr. Human Rights Investigator for the State of Illinois for 39 years leading to his recent retirement in 2017. His love for teaching English as a Second Language or Spanish was apparent with secondary jobs throughout his lifetime as an ESL Instructor at Triton College and Salem Church and a Spanish Language Instructor at Sargent & Lundy.

Stanley met his wife Susana (Arteaga) as her ESL instructor in 1973 at Salem Evangelical Free Church. They married two years later on June 21, 1975 and went on to have two children, Christina and Richard. His children remember him as a kind and gentle father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

In addition, Stanley volunteered his time at church and with Renacer Boliviano, Inc. a not-for-profit endowment for needy children and youth in Bolivia, where he was an active member for decades.

Throughout his life, he held an unwavering faith in God, and since he loved to converse with any person who crossed his path, he was able to share his faith with those who surrounded him.

Stanley joins his parents, John and Alice in Heaven. He is survived by his wife, Susana, his brothers Ken and Herbie, his children, Christina (Kenny), Richard, and his three grandchildren, Isabella, Gabriela and Mateo.

To Stanley not a good bye just a so long because this is a path each one of us is going to follow unfortunately, for us it was too early; for Stan with whom I had the chance to talk early enough, was a relief. He accomplished with his role as a Dad and husband for his family. A friend and a leader for all of us at Renacer Boliviano, institution that will remember him always for his undeniable support and participation along the years.

At this moment of sorrow, we want to express our gratitude to Susana for allowing us to enjoy his friendship and camaraderie in Renacer Boliviano where he left so many memories to remember.

Also our sincere condolence to the Moen family

My uncle Stanley is a very cool person. He left a big impression on me when I was about five. I remember when he came to visit my mom and dad me and my brother Dave. He came to our house and introduced us to our future Aunt and his bride to be,Susana. What impressed me was my Aunt was talking to Stanley in spanish and I didnt know my uncle spoke spanish . It was then I wanted to know how to speak spanish. My uncle spent time teaching me spanish during his visit with us. My uncle studied spanish in a university in ValenciaEspaña and used it for the rest of his life (very cool!!) My uncle is a kind gentle man. He has a humble spirit .Blessed are the peacemakers, for theywill be called sons of God. Matt.5:9 Tío te extrañamos!

It’s with sweet memories that I spoke with Stan a few days ago and had such a pleasant conversation reminiscing of years past. I first met Stan in 1976 when I began teaching at Salem Christian School and became involved at Salem Evangelical Free Church as well. He and Susana became good friends for many years as we shared in ministry together. He was a gentle soul, and a light that will be missed. Our deepest condolences to the family.

Stan, you will be missed

Dear Susana and family,
We are so saddened by Stan's passing. We feel so fortunate to have know him. He was always kind and thoughtful and so proud of his family.
I'm so glad we saw him a couple years ago. Always thinking of others, he went out of his way to help Mateo make a professional contact with his nephew.
He has passed too soon. We need more kind-hearted people like Stan in this world. Our hearts are sad.  Our sincere condolences for you and your family.

Mi Elegía a Stanley

July 31, 2020

You are home!
