Malice is her biggest enemy!

She falls into a big puddle, dirty from head to toe, after acting sublime to uncle Einar and teasing him. He is laughing about her and she is getting very angry about that. She starts screaming: “It is your fault that I fell, you did not say I should hold on to you”.

Furious: “I will go home tomorrow!”. When she hears that she will have to get up early she delays her plans to the day after tomorrow.

She tortures me the entire day, she would like 2 hour long singing lessons.

After trying a little while I tell her we are finished.

Staggered!

That has not been 2 hours!

Susi´s first singing lesson!

After practising all day and asking me after every single one of my lessons if she could get a lesson, even giving up on hours playing outside and telling everyone that she meets that she would have a lesson in a moment.-

I finally give in and make the first try at singing with moppet:

She sits in the chair attentively, room for schooling, the first exercise, third intervals

The repeats every note with ease, best when I sing first.

The sound of the piano seems to still be a little unfamiliar to her. Then we do “ng” exercises for holding notes using the ones that she repeats hitting the precise note, partly holding the note for a long time.-

Inherent ease!

Before the lesson ends she asks if she is getting another lesson tomorrow.

She is trying the exercises we did in her bed in the evening.

Certainly a singing talent this little 4 year old girl.

She often says to uncle Einar: “You are my sweet dear”.

She got a paper doll with chocolate from one of my students yesterday.

Uncle Einar got a whole piece of chocolate. When he asks for another piece today she says: “No-you got a big piece yesterday and you nibbled today, it is Any´s turn today, she did not get anything yet”.

A very good memory!

Tomorrow, practice, going to mommy after Christmas again, then playing with Bubi, who is not being naughty.

Mommy buys so many rolls, they taste delicious!

Great childish mind!

I tell her that she is my sweet moppet a lot. That is why she comes running to my music room today smiling from cheek to cheek hugging me and yelling: “But you are my sweet moppet!”

My dear little soul.

Additional Pages Translated by Jörg

January 5, 2016

Jörg's email arrived January 4th, 2016 with 6 additional translated pages for us to enjoy.  This is the message he sent along with them.

Dear Kassie, dear Ray!

We wish you and your family a merry Christmas!

My brother Christian and his family are also sending their greetings!

You will find the next text Emmi translated further down. It is very beautiful even if it was not written by Susis mother! -I did not know that the sister of your grandmother, aunt Any, was a musician. Family Wiese listened to music a lot. Uncle Otto played the violin to us on our birthday parties when we were children. He had an amazing vibrato. His brother Adolf, the youngest one of the Wiese siblings even was a career musician. He had an orchestra and performed alternately with the musician Bernhard Ette in the “Wintergarten” in Berlin (see attachment 1 + 2).

Music by Bernhard Ette, Adolf Wiese´s music must have sounded similarly: (before clicking on this first link, turn off the background music on the top of this page by clicking on Sound)

PS: I sent an email to the Settje-Family in Bremen asking for the letters from America. If they answer me I will inform you!

She is already asking if aunt Any is done with her classes - she already washed her hands, she wants to practice.  When she is allowed she would like to sing.  She does this freely. Favorite song "die Kirschen" (the cherries) listen to a musician play that song: http://sep.me/1wd  her words, her own fantasy.
She wants to sing for Bubi (her brother John) that she seems to love so very much a golden creature.

Her patent-leather shoes and stocking that were brought to her from Hamburg are her pride and joy.  She calls herself a chic and elegant lady.  The predispositions for vanity and orderliness are given.  She also has the traits of being behaved and humble - thankful.

Susi is sitting in the armchare, attentively listening to aunt Any practice.  A student she (Susi has to leave the room.  She goes into the kitchen to the maid and says she needs to practice and she starts to.  When she is urged not to be loud and disturb the class she goes into the pantry after asking Lily if she wouldn't bother anyone there.  After a few A-NG-A she asks Lily "am I doing it right?" she is even checking the singing position of her mouth.

Susi makes her first attempt at singing to the piano.
She sits down, strikes a note or how she calls it touches a note or more, just the way she overheard it in aunt Any's class (she spends hours in the next room with her doll in her arms) and repeats tones, partly hitting the precise note.  I am sure she has a musical taltent lying dormant within her.

One evening Susi was sitting in her bed clean, behaved and nice, she keenly studied a storybook that she got from aunt Bockmann, she was reading out loud, adorable little sentenses with a rythm regarding the pictures.  A life of childlike happiness, there is a great fantasy in this child.  Beginning of May 1928
