Mrs. Rickett's comes from a very special and important line of Black Women. In unfamiliar company she keeps her own counsel, but observes intently. Among peers she is sharp, strong-minded and often right. With friends, she can shows a very dry, very sly sense of humor. If she smiled my way, I felt that smile was well earned. When I was young, I never really thought of her as anything other than "Mom's Friend". But one day, when I was having a hard time in my 3rd year of university, she offered me some sharp, precise and extremely kind words of encouragement. She showed that she cared, and the only response to that was to pull myself together and get the job done. She believed in me, and so from then on I strive hard to life up to that belief. I'm am sad that she's passed, but I am so grateful that she was here.
