I worked alongside Yuri for 11 years. He was so easy to work with and just knew how to communicate with people. He spoke with great wisdom and intelligence with the perfect calming tone. He welcomed colleagues and students whenever they needed guidance and support. He had a special knack with words and helping people. Each year on the student’s feedback reports they wrote that his lectures were very interesting, entertaining and that he gave them endless support. Before the exams he would book extra sessions with the students to go over everything to make sure they felt confident, strong and ready. He wasn’t just a colleague but a great role model and a great leader. He and his family have devoted their lives to medicine and science to help mankind with revolutionary solutions and they have. When there was a special bank holiday in Russia even though he had to work he said “Greta the sun is shining why don’t you take the morning off”. When I was going through a hard time he sent me a picture of his little bull dog sitting in the sun, looking absolutely chilled and said “life will be okay”.
You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

I can't believe Yura is gone..... that he's not with us..
I've known him for almost 45 years.....We started together at the I. M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy, when I was a 3rd-year post-graduate student at the Department of Microbiology, and Yuri joined post-graduate program at the Department of Histology... I will never forget our first experiments on the isolation of lymphocytes by centrifugation in density gradients.... I remember very well our first meeting after leaving Russia in Stockholm at the Congress on Immunology, where I first met his wife Irina and two children, Elizabeth and Mikhail.... I

       This site is dedicated to Yuri Volkov (Юрий Волков), Professor of Molecular & Translational Medicine at Trinity College, Dublin, who passed away 15th of March 2021, peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Irina and loving father of Liza and the late Mikhail. Yuri will be very deeply missed by his loving wife, daughter, sister Nina, brother Vladimir, extended family, his wide circle of friends and dear colleagues.
