Jerry's Obituary

May 6, 2020
Jerry Randall Scroggins left his earthly home suddenly on Saturday, April 25, 2020, and entered eternal rest. Jerry was born on March 31, 1960 and recently celebrated his 60th birthday. He was the third youngest child of Amy F. Scroggins and the late Calvin Scroggins Sr.

Jerry grew up in LaPlata, MD. As a child, he attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was baptized, made his first communion and confirmation.

Jerry was educated in the Charles County public schools, graduating from La Plata High School. He enjoyed playing in the Colt Football League. He was always ready for a basketball game on any of the county courts against rival neighborhoods.

Upon graduation, Jerry joined the United States Air Force. Jerry took pride in serving his country following in the footsteps of his father and older brother, Curtis.

Once he completed his military service, Jerry worked as a surveyor for Regal Construction and many other companies in the Southern Maryland area. He loved his work and was very good at his job.

Jerry loved his family and looked forward to all family events. His only son, Dontaiz, and grandson, DJ, held a special place in his heart.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. When you visited you would often find him in front of his BIG screen tv watching sports especially, tennis, track, the Olympics, and of course football. To say Jerry loved the Miami Dolphins is an understatement. He took pride in his team even when their record left much to be desired. His Miami Dolphins fanwear was worn all year long. During football season (really anytime), he was a big-time trash talker and enjoyed the rivalry with his family and friends about their favorite teams.
Jerry was passionate about racecars. He enjoyed his weekend trips to the racetrack, especially National Hot Rod Association, (NHRA) races, with his son, brothers, best friend/cousin, Junior Lee, and the neighborhood crew. He could watch for hours and enjoyed that bonding time with the fellas.
He was an avid fan of women's college basketball and would frequently talk with his niece Grace and brother Curtis about the games.
Don’t forget Jerry and his mom. Jerry was a ‘Mom’s boy’ at heart. He was a caring support, comforted and catered to her needs at home every day. Anything Mom wanted Mom received.
Jerry will be remembered for his sincerity, generosity, and infectious smile. You really could not ask for a better son, father, brother, uncle or a friend.  Everybody loved Jerry.  Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Scroggins Sr. and brother, Calvin Scroggins Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Dontaiz Gibson (Kiera); grandson, DJ; mother, Amy Scroggins; sisters, Diane and Denise; brothers Artie, Eric, Curtis, Trent and Tracy, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
