Your Presence
Shared by sujatha sriram on 07/21/2012

I happen to get a chance to attend shirdi baba bhajan this thursday and when the 1 hr songs ended , my friend did the arti pooja and i close my eyes to be one in that moment and to my suprise my eyes became wet and tears were rolling down and deep pangness swept me. i didnt know the reason then but just few sec after that when i opened my eyes, i saw appa's twinkling eyes in the picture of baba which was kept on the table.. I felt your presence appa and there i saw you consoling me saying " hey suj, iam here with you , so kanna thodicho, smile now ".

i could immediately see myself listening to your command and i started feeling warm and good and felt you embracing me and promising that you would remain in me for ever always and i shouldnt miss your absence... Yes appa. i do feel you permeating around me and being with me yet i cant stop those tears trickling down my eyes when i see your picture and those eyes of yours which i see in baba everyday ..

May you be blessed with all the goodness and your soul enrich the lives of many .. Thanks for being in my heart mind and soul and thanks for having such association with me.

I also take this moment to thank MOHAN  to have introduced appa to me and helping me to develop that bond which i carry it with me in special way .. My heartfelt condolences to you and know he is with us.

Dear Sankar,

I am back from my trip to Coimbatore for a trail test of machines and on return I could see your mail.
I really cherish my association with you and your parental family since we lived in close neighbourhood

at Trichy, Puthur officer's colony. I really remember your family group for the fact that it can be earmarked
for the rollmodel of Indian joint family system. I am happy that your father had been your guide spirit all
along till yesterday and continuing his blessings into the future of you and your family. I still remember our
visit to your father office after BE graduation for getting his character certificate at the sub-magistrate

court / Thennur. I am sending the attachment of his character certificate to me to cherish his long family,
friendy association.

May I pray his soul to rest in peace. In fact I wanted to meet all of you atleast once at your place but could not
make it.

Convey my heartfelt condollences to everyone of your family members.

Dear Dr. Sankar. Shashi and I are grieved to hear about your  Fathers demise. We are really sorry. Though we did not have the good fortune of meeting him in person, he appears to be a very gentle and kind man. I know how much of a shock it is to loose one's Father, I have  been through it. One never overcomes this loss, but with time we do make adjustments and life goes on. Furthermore, he had a very productive and useful life full of accomplishments and service to humanity. He was a great man, and an upright and honest human being. May God grant peace to his soul and a place of high esteem in heaven.  Please accept our heartfelt condolences. God be with you and bless you and your family.

I am really sorry to hear the news of a very good man passing away.
Anna was more than a Godfather for me throughout my formative years. His simplicity and love was very refreshing and left a very lasting impression on my outlook in life. I would not be able to forget when he took me to the Pudukkottai Post office late on a Saturday afternoon, to take a 5 rupees postal order for my application for engineering college admission. He took me on a bicycle. That changed my entire life from being a poor man to an educated man with a decent life.
I can also not forget the Pudukkottai house where Akka gave me food for my body and Anna gave me food for my mind and soul. I will always remember my association with your family as the single most turning point in my life. Both your parents showed a lot of love to me and treated me as their eldest son. I will always be grateful for that slice of luck in my life.
I am glad that he had Uma as a daughter in law ( in fact she was more than a daughter to him ) to keep him company in his old age and look after him.
My heartfelt condolences to you and Uma, &  Murthy, Shankar, Ramesh , Mohan and their respective families. Please convey my love to all of them.
Vasanthi joins me in offerring our sympathies to you all as she also had a very good relationship with your parents and has a lot of regards and affection for your entire family.

Mama...
Shared by Usha Ramachandran on 06/10/2012

Like a  great Banyan tree,  Mama provided shelter and guided all to become great and mentally strong persons. He guided not only his dear ones but also to all who took shelter under the great strong tree.

The tree is no longer with us, we have but its shade.

It is said that “Man lives in deeds not in years”; but here was someone who lived in both. Mama’s youthfulness was evident in his remarks on each of his birthdays. Even on his 90th birthday, he said – ‘Today I am 90 years young.”, Mama your sprit is truly indomitable.

I, vividly remember my early days as a daughter-in-law in this wonderful family, when I was overawed by the sheer efficiency that everyone displayed in their work. As I was feeling visibly out-of-place, I casually remarked to him, “I feel like a square peg in a round hole.” Mama then replied in his usual nonchalant manner, “All you need to do is to cut the corners off.”

Mama personally believed in a disciplined and rigid schedule.  He was an avid Bhagawad Gita reader and also followed its teachings throughout his life.

We have seen him responding with promptness to mails. He was calm and composed and the word 'anger' had no place in his dictionary.

My husband and in-laws join me in conveying heartfelt condolences to Mama’s family.

Mama,  We love you and we will miss you forever.

Appa and myself were like friends in college and meeting after a long gap..May be i was connected with him in some life and it ended half way and we met again in this life and continued from where we left ,,

His energy , smile and perspective over the nuances of life were so contagious and one would be in awe at his perseverence over different things.. We have had good fun times , fighting times ( it was me who used to fight and force him to respond) and he used to fight with me becoz i wanted it ..He has such extreme sense of oness to become like those whom he was interacting with ..I still remember him taking me for buttermilk and ice cream one evening as a thankful gesture since i cut his nails for him.. We twins used to constantly bully and nag him as whom he is close to and he used to smile and say " how can i say which eye is special. Both are essential and fruitful". He had such knack of handling things around him,, Even then i never used to let go . i used to constantly point to him i am special as iam his right eye and mostly we all are right hand dominant people..He used to give that sparkling smile of his on that and touch my hand with warmth,, I miss you appa, i miss your mails asking about each and every one in my family and my work and those special children whom you didnt know yet was reaching out to them in your own special way,

I miss your blessings on festive days and i miss you coming to India and we going out together and me coming to see you and chatting with anna and manni.. You will remain in our memories and i am sure your soul will bless me like always and we will be staying in touch just like how you used to ,, Thanks appa for such wonderful association and Sriram and Supri too joins in conveying their wishes and to rest your soul in peace,, Love you ever, hugs

My memories with anna
Shared by Lalitha Ravi on 06/09/2012
Anna and me have had lot of memories together for the last 25 yrs. everytime he visits India we used to go to have ice cream shopping and have gone on many trips too together. He was a bundle of energy, epitome of optimism, full of life and very unconditional. Best friend and confidant to me. Suja and me were his daughters. Every new year he would send us some money as a token of blessings from him as per the Hindu custom. Lot of exchange of heartfelt mails and letters and cards still adorn my box of letters. Even when you are in a bad mood, he was like a mood lifter, his touch, smile, presence had a magical aura. His hand shake at times would be so strong as if he is expressing all his feelings of compassion care and love . He would liven our lives everyday through memories. I recall an incident where I had got him a shirt which was little neutral in color he insisted that we go together to the shop and to buy a lavender shirt to suit his personality , that brought an instant smile , wow what energy and enthusiasm like a small boy. :) Lali

We have known CS Mani for nearly six years and have never come such a strong disciplined person like him. He has been very independent but at the same time very considerate to all others.

A very simple person and easy to satisfy as his wants were very limited. He was leading a life of simplicity. A voracious reader of religious books like Gita, Mahabaratha and a lot of English novels.

He was leading a very active life until recently. He leaves behind a big gap in all our lives. While we will miss him in our midst, his memories will remain with us for years to come. Our prayers are there for his soul to rest in peace.

thatha
Shared by Patrick McConnell on 06/07/2012

I am truly sorry I cannot be with everyone to mourn the loss of thatha and celebrate his life.

When I married Akila, I also married into her family.  Thatha accepted me into the family with open arms and an open heart.  I didn't know what a thatha was at the time, but now I can say I am privileged to have him as my thatha, my grandfather. My life is fuller having had him as part of my life, and I will no longer be the same having lost him.

One of my favorite stories of thatha is when Vijay, Vivek, Akila, and I walked in on thatha asleep on an ab machine exerciser.  We woke him up, saying, "Thatha, what are you doing?!?!"  He looked at us, down at the ab machine, and simply said "Exercising" and proceeded to work out his abs without hesitation.  Thatha's is an incredible man, infinitely adaptable, with a heart as big as they come.  In death as in life, his spirit will be unquenchable.

Dear Murthi / Murali / Sankar annas, Ramesh and Mohan,   We, all members of Renukambal's family, share with you all the loss of Anna; for, it is equally difficult for us to console ourselves of this loss. He was so correctly and uniquely called 'Anna' by all in all families related to him. And probably more so to his beloved sister's family. He, along with his brother and Akka, played a major role in giving a proper shape to life of each of her children. We are ever grateful to Anna, Akka and Chinna mama. What a family! We thank God for having blessed us with such great people as our close relatives.   Personally, I would cherish the memories of Anna - I have quite a few of them to myself - including a few strong ones that would last through my life.   We will continue to seek his blessings.   Sankar   for Renukambal's family

I had known your father since 1979. He was always very nice to me and he was the motivator for me to complete my engineering degree.

The last time I met him at Anirudh's Upanayanam he spent quite some time enquiring about my whole family. He remembered everyone in the family.

At this time, I pray the almighty to give strength to you and your brothers to bear the loss.

We learnt lots from him. He was a strict disciplinarian and great habits. His keeping helathy and active till his last moments sets as a role model and we had interesting conversations with him while we visited you in 2007.

Memories of Jeep Thatha
Shared by Niranjan Ramachandran on 06/07/2012

Jeep Thatha...thats how I used to call him from my childhood ...

Thatha was someone who always preferred to look at a glass as being half-full rather than half-empty...one who always had kind and encouraging words for you, in any situation...

I still remember my school days when I would finish 2nd or 3rd in class, and here was Jeep Thatha telling me...”in a way, it is more exciting to finish 2nd or 3rd than to finish 1st in class because you are always on the toes of the class topper and challenging him/her. There is less pressure on you and at the same time, with a little more effort , you can always finish 1st.”

Thatha was someone who could strike an enthralling conversation with any person, irrespective of whether he/she was 5 years old or 85.

I have fond memories of the wonderful mails that he would type-write in English , invariably preceded by a hand-written Sanskrit sloka , from the Bhagawad Gita or the Upanishads, which would serve as an apppropriate 'Thought for the day' message.

Thatha's evergreen smile, his refreshing & positive outlook towards life, the boundless energy that made him forever young at heart - are some of the priceless assets that he has bequeathed to us.

True to this site’s title, Jeep Thatha will ‘Forever be missed’ ...

Memories of Mani Subramanian
Shared by C.S. Murthi on 06/06/2012

SUBRAMANIAN, Mani, 95, passed away peacefully at 12:10pm EDT on Monday, June 4 2012 after a brief illness.  Born in 1917 in Arni, India, Mani Subramanian retired as a Judge.  He emigrated to the USA in 1985 to live with his sons.  Mani is survived by his five sons C.S. Murthi, C.S. Murali, Chetan S. Sankar, C.S. Ramesh, C.S. (Ram) Mohan, five daughters-in-law, seven grandchildren, his sister Lakshmi, and a host of relatives.

Mani lived a grand life, and will be greatly missed.  A diplomat even amongst his family, he loved to read and go for a regular walk, rain or snow.  He was the patriarch of a large and loving family which he guided with wisdom, experience, patience and love.  Born at a time of no electricity, he kept in regular touch with a wide worldwide network via email.

His love of life, great curiosity and unbounded enthusiasm was combined with an infectious, positive and can-do approach.  Launching himself fully into all endeavors, he rarely let “no” stop him.  In his retired years, he traveled widely around the world, from Africa to Europe to South America, enjoying and exploring with joy and wonder.

A Memorial Service is planned for Thursday June 7th at 9am at Fluehr Funeral Home, 864 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, Pa (215-639-3130).  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) or Reading Is Fundamental (http://is.gd/SQBeL6 or rif.org).  An online guest book is maintained at http://www.mani-subramanian.forevermissed.com.

Dear Murthi / Murali / Sankar annas, Ramesh and Mohan,

We, all members of Renukambal's family, share with you all the loss of Anna; for, it is equally difficult for us to console ourselves of this loss.

When we lived in Shelton Lane, we often saw him walking in the neighborhood, and was a delight to talk to.  Sushil, Neal and I loved talking to him.  We remember him as a person who always smiled and seemed very calm. He seemed content with life and proud of his family’s achievements. Mama, you could see, was a devoted family man, who was fortunate to see his sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren excel in their life and profession. He left behind him a family that appreciates the values he instilled in them and the heritage that he was able to pass on.

I vividly remember him from Chetan’s 60th birthday party where all your family was together, and he had his “This is my family and I am proud of them” look!

With deepest sympathies to you, your brothers and their families,

Latha, Sushil, Neal, Leela and P.K. Ramanathan

Dear Murthy, Murali, Uma, Shankar, Lakshmi, Mohan and Rupa,

We are very sorry to hear the sad news.   I got my basic degree only because of Anna and it was very useful to me. He used to be happy and also made others around him happy. Very enthusiastic, active, cheerful and so very prompt in responding,I don't  think that we will be able to find such a dignified personality in future. He deserved the life he lived through. All of us can try to acquire at least some of his good qualities and that will be the right tribute to him.   Thanks Shyamala.K.R.
