Maria was born May 26, 1933 in Barcelona, Spain to Manuel Real and Maria Pardo. After coming to the United States, she also worked for the Spanish embassy’s military attaché in Washington, D.C. as a translator. Maria had a lifelong passion for the classical guitar, which she played since age 7. She became an accomplished classical guitarist and teacher. She had many other interests, including reading, quilting, and she loved to travel.
