Pros. Stanasila, a real "guardian of the liberties of the country", as George Washington said
November 11, 2020
“A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car;
but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad.”
— Theodore Roosevelt
"While we could split hairs over the virtues of stealing, this saying about education from Teddy Roosevelt is another way of saying give a man a fish and you feed him for a meal, but teach him to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
Today, in US, we celebrate the Veterans Day. My father was a veteran who fought for freedom, but was treated with ingratitude by the regime that was installed after the WWII in the country he fought. He was placed in a hard work camp for being a man loving freedom and people, able to create value and do business.
“A primary object should be the education of our youth in the science of government. In a republic, what species of knowledge can be equally important? And what duty more pressing than communicating it to those who are to be the future guardians of the liberties of the country?” — "George Washington Washington, America’s first president and often called the “father of the US” saw education as an important inheritance for the youth of the nation particularly as it involved government. The next time you find yourself wondering why you get up every day and go to school, remember the words of Ol’ George!"
Prof. Stanasila was not a veteran, he was too young to go to war, but he lived the hard times that came after the WWII in Romania, country that fought on the same side with the Allies, but was strangely considered defeated because at a certain moment was neutral, able to provide oil to both countries (Germany and US of America) belonging to adverse war parts, and for many other reasons related to power and money.
But Prof. Stanasila was a veteran in education and he taught young persons in order to make them "future guardians of the liberties of the country". Prof. Stanasla was himself a guardian of the liberties of the country.
How many of his students became guardians of the liberties of the countries they live? This question does not have an answer.
One of the liberties is the right to education. Our days, this right is not respected, neither in Romania, neither in US, neither in many other countries. In Romania, the non practical authorities asked for generalized online schooling, during this intensified pandemic, in a country where not all children have the means to have access to a laptop, computer, internet, smart phone. Even some teachers do not have the training to teach online, and, more than that, they do not have the wages to do such more demanding work.
In U.S. there is a system called "home schooling". But this system involves funds offered to the families not able or not willing to send their children at a public school. More than that, inspectors are paid to control if the home schooling students learn or not and how efficient the teaching relatives are. Romania does not have such a system.
The question is why Romania does not ask for Eu (European Union) funds to inject money in education, for installing UV devices in the public schools, air purifiers with ions in the class rooms and schools facilities? The fear for covid-19 contamination coming from the Romanian authorities not able to find solutions would be unacceptable for Prof. Stanasila. He, who was able to find solutions to so many problems. He would have been able to tell the department of education head what to do in such moments, he would have been able to indicate the medical pandemic team what devices to use for disinfection.
If Prof. Stanasila is not here now, the question can be stated like this: the Romanian authorities do not do brainstorming with the physics, engineering, high-tech specialists, professionals, education experienced persons who can offer solutions for keeping the Romanian schools safe and disinfected?
The picture shows Prof. Stanasila with a former student from Automatica, who became a priest.
This pictures takes me to the idea of asking the BOR (The Orthodox Romanian Church), the Greek Catholic priests, the Jewish Romanian Rabbi, the Romanian Muslims, the Catholics fathers / pastors, the New Protestants, the Protestants, the Lutherans, etc. to offer for free the space of their religious facilities (churches, monasteries etc.) for teaching the students not having computers, laptops, smart phones etc., especially in the rural or poor areas. Before the WWII the schooling inside the religious organizations had a professional education system in Romania. Now, such organizations have the real estate facilities property rights on so many buildings and facilities suitable to be used for the teachers and students to teach the poor or in need students. Moreover, these religious facilities, so are also exempt from taxes, so these buildings and land could become schools during a pandemic.
