Ray, 65 now, time on earth keeps moving ahead... faster every year. Played some mountain golf today here in Ruidoso, NM and thought of all the mountain rounds we had played. Wish you were here! I can smile now when I think of our time together and I miss them. See you when I get there. Brother Mike.

Happy heavenly birthday, Ray….you must be so proud of the Avs! They were so fun to watch win it last year! And looks like they’re trying again…Though I’m not in Denver anymore, I’m still a diehard fan, thanks to you bringing me to my first games, trying to explain the rules…oh and of course, playing “name that tune/artist/year” to every song! Still think of you and your big smile, with a Jack and diet. Miss your energy. ♥️

Happy B'day Ray! Time fly's by these days, but I still think about you a lot, Every time I see a Rockies or Av's game on, looking for a golf buddy, or like now, when April 16 rolls around. There is still a hole in the world as we know it. I try to live life like it's short, and enjoy all I can with my time left. Peace be with you!

We are thinking of you today and wish we could all celebrate your birthday with you! Many years have gone by but it seems like such a short time ago since we last shared laughs and good times. Your nieces are 17 and 19 now, wish they could have known you when they were a bit older, they of course would have LOVED hanging out with you!
CANCER sucks and I know first hand now, I realize now how much you went through with treatments and you were such a warrior, never complaining and staying so upbeat. Miss you big brother.

Too many years have passed by without you, makes me teary just writing this. We think of you often and miss the "good" old days. You would hate the craziness right now and I know you would have a hard time isolating with no sports to watch and no strolls to Wash park hangouts. Jim and I will be doing a toast to you today, miss you today and always!

Ray, strange times we're living through right now. No live sports is a weird one... We missed March Madness, Baseball opening day, NBA season, Master's, and Olympics so far. Social Distancing would have been a real drag for you. Still miss you a lot and the world does to. Til the distant future. Mike

Wow, Albert Einstein was right, time does move faster as you get older. I can't believe it has been another year. I still remember all of the great times we had and I miss them dearly... Any big sporting event makes me think of you and how we might have been there. You were always the one to count on to hit a big event. There's still a big hole in the universe. I definitely wish you were here!

Oh My Lemon! Seeing your face and that smile always brings a smile to my face, but it also brings tears to my eyes and leaves a whole in my heart. You are missed more than you could imagine today and always!
I hope that you and Todd are drinking some jack, playing a lot of golf and watching your nephews/nieces grow into amazing young people.
Love you always! Happy Heavenly Birthday!

Happy birthday my friend. We just had another successful March Madness pool but still different not seeing your name in the list. It was a great ski season and the Avs are in the playoffs but again, not the same without you participating with us. We'll raise a drink to you at WPG tonight. We all miss you!

Ray, Happy 60th Birthday. I miss my friend and roommate. I miss playing golf, skiing and everything else we use to do together. I even miss our political discussions. Your missing out on the Trump Presidency. Now this would have been some interesting discussions. Just went on the Aspen ski trip with Miller and CoCo. Steve Pine made sure we had a toast to Ray. This will be our 25th Year for the Prospectors Cup Golf Tournament. We sure do miss having you there. It is just not the same. Anderson and Desmond tied in the Rays March Madness Tournament. Desmond won the tie breaker. Thanks to Scott Turner for keeping it going. There are so many memories of having you around. It seems a day does not go by without something reminding me of being with you. We all miss you.

Ray, I miss you so much. We played on the same basketball team when he was 12 and I was 13 in Japan. We continued to play basketball in high school everyday during lunch in El Paso, Tx. 1973-75. He would stay at my Albuquerque apt. at least 4 times a year when he would drive to El Paso in his 30's. For the next 20 years we would go to Vegas for the NCAA tourney with the same group of guys. It stopped once Ray passed. It just would never, ever be the same without Ray!

So many great memories that are not forgotten, wish we had more these past 6 years with you. I especially think of you doing the holidays, when we make our annual trek to CO for skiing in Feb and coming early to hang with you at Wash Park Grill... we still go and see your plaque over you stool, and I can't help but pause & be sad a bit when one of your favorite songs is playing. My girls are growing up fast and I wish they had been older to remember you better. I know you are laughing at my golf game, I know....I still can't seem to get much better at it. Miss you my fun, witty, generous brother, you will always be in my heart and always remembered.

Hey Brother, Hardly a day goes by when March Madness, or golf, or football, or base ball, or a music event, or... where I don't think about you and miss the great times we had. I miss you a lot. Happy Birthday!

To all of Ray's (many) friends, thanks for keeping Ray's memory alive! I know our family greatly appreciates it. Everyone toast up a Jack and diet for him tonight. I am with Phil in Vegas today, and I know we will.

Ray, we still think of all the fun memories with you at the beach, skiing and holidays with you as well as when we where kids together, you always were such a generous brother and I probably never said thanks enough. The girls are growing up, not sure where the last 5 years went, two teenagers in the house! We tried Park City this year for skiing, but will be back to CO next year.... though always sad when we fly into Denver and don't get to hang with you. Last time we where there, we ate at Wash Grill and loved the plaque in your honor over you seat at the bar. Very touching. You are always on our mind and we miss ya! FYI, my golf game is still pitiful. xoxo

Hey Ray,

Ray! Five years gone, and I still want to pick up the phone and call you. We've missed you and wish you were here to cheer on Barret in football. He is doing great you would have been proud! You will be happy to know that Jenna is doing awesome in her job and the Austin family has stepped up to look out after her. Max is heading to med school this fall, so of course, I would have liked that to have happened sooner to look out after you! Hope you can read all these so you know how much EVERYONE misses you. I'm sending my love, hugs, and birthday wishes to you. Not sure how I got so lucky to have you as my brother, but I'll take it.

Brother Ray, Yesterday, I participated in a "Relay for Life" event at Jennifer's High School. She was a Team Captain for her swim team and organized a large group to support the cause. Being on your birthday, it made it even more special for Jennifer and me, and we donated generously with time and funds to the cancer research foundations supported. We miss you and think about you a lot. Love always. Mike and Jennifer.

Hey Ray - Happy Birthday! Missing you today & reliving fun times in my mind. As I reread some of these posts from the Getty gang, I started thinking about all the Happy Hours, not just at TSR but also Cowboy / Confetti. For years after he visited me in Houston that one weekend, my Dad remembered you from Happy Hour at Confetti and would ask "How's my good, friend, Ray?" You made an impression on everyone you met! There's no one else like you and I miss you.

Ray ... my son is about to graduate from college, and I've been reflecting on his years thus far, and the people who touched his life. I remembered one of our dinners at Benny's and some very wise, loving, REAL insights you shared. Thank you for touching his life with your genuineness, and your sense of what matters.

Hey Ray,

I woke up today thinking about you and how many incredible friends in your life. The fact that even three years later, your friends are still celebrating your life is a testament to what a special person you are! I Can't tell you how much I miss you. With every sporting event we watch, we think of you. I still wonder how I won the genetic lottery and had the honor of being your sister. Happy Birthday, Ray!

Hi Ray,

I was in Kentucky last week. All the whiskey distilleries made me think of you. I even had a whiskey and coke in your honor. I went on a really cool tour of Churchill Downs. It reminded me of how much you loved horse racing. Have you ever been there......I bet you have. I still have fond memories of you and I watching Secretariat together. You are greatly missed!!!!

Ray -- found myself leaving my cocoon of the highlands neighborhood to try to catch the Blackhawks at Campus Lounge. I was teary-eyed walking in recalling how sweet it was that you'd meet me there even after your AV's were out, just because you knew it made me happy and you cheered them all the way to the 2010 Stanley Cup.

And I also realized why I so rarely return to Wash Park. I moved to the North-side the month you were diagnosed. it's almost like in my mind, Wash Park doesn't exist without you. If I don't go there, I don't have to face the reality that I can't swing over to ask you to join me at Benny's for some Mexican, or catch up on the latest in world events.

I'm going to try to recall the smile that greeted so many, and hope that I can try to share that smile to make others happy like you. Love you.

"Who is Ray?"
As I attempt to answer this question to new friends as I toast you at the latest Avs playoff game in Minnesota, I realize my answer fails to do your memory justice. You were much, much more than just a very genuine, honest man with an infectious smile, who loved his jack and diets, but most importantly his friends and family... especially his beloved mother where his name "Lemon" came from. Known for his love of sports-esp. the Avalanche and Rockies, travelling to Vegas for March Madness every year, playing "name that tune/artist/year" of the music playing over the loudspeaker of wherever he was at the time, engaging in a good game of golf or one of his charitable events, and watching his horses race, you could find him most evenings at the Wash Park Grill or at Marlowe's on a sunny afternoon for lunch.
These words barely scratch the surface of the person and friend you were to everyone whom was lucky enough to call you a friend. So, maybe the next time I will just summarize the answer to: "He was a Good friend" and smile. Thanks for the memories, Ray. The puck is in your court now, if you have any pull up there, maybe you can help Coach Roy out in Game 7. Your spirit definitely lives on. Miss you.

Hi Ray,
Happy Birthday! It's hard to believe 2 years has gone by so quickly. My 9th grader was home sick from school today and saw me crying as I read these messages to you.  She remembers me getting to see you in Denver in Jan. 2012, asking "Wasn't that (favorite teenage word)awkward? - calling someone up out of the blue after not seeing them for 20 years and saying "Hey! I'm coming to Denver for a training class! What are you doing for dinner tomorrow night?" I told her if she'd ever met you, she'd know there nothing awkward about it. The 20 years melted away. I am so grateful I got to have those 2 evenings with you.
I miss you!  Cheers!

Hi Ray!

Today would have been your 56th birthday, and I miss being able to pick up the phone and harass you about it. The kids miss you tremendously as do Kent and I. It seems a lot of people felt like you were their angel, but I guess that's just how you roll. I will definitely be playing some of your favorite tunes today and will probably start with some sappy Dan Fogelberg for you. Love you!

Since I live in Minnesota now, I will be attending a game and will have a captain and coke for you...sorry I still can't do jack. :-) I think of you often and have fond memories of skiing, watching sporting events and the wash part grill, of course. Cheers to you, you are still very missed.xo

Snowmobiling in Taos

April 11, 2014

One year Ray took me down to Taos for some skiing and partying at a cabin.  I don't remember the specifics but Melissa was also there with her friends.  One night Ray and I decide to go snowmobiling.  It was late and freezing outside.  We both hopped on with Ray at the wheel (this is key).  After we were quite a ways from the cabin we start to make a turn and instead of turning the snowmobile continues straight for a tree.  At the last minute we both jumped off and the snowmobile hit the tree and flipped over on its side.  Of course since Ray was driving I blamed him and he blamed me for not leaning the right way.  I still say it was his fault.  Anyway, we were scared stiff because we were so far away and didn't have a fast way to get back.  Did I mention it was freezing out!  We finally got the snowmobile up and running and limped back to the cabin.  The whole way we were trying to make up a story because we thought we probably damaged the snowmobile when it flipped.  Of course when we got there, Ray explained how it was my fault and I explained how he didn't know how to drive... both of us looking for a little bit of sympathy.  Must of been quite a sight!  Everybody started laughing and we looked at each other wondering what the joke was.  Apparently flipping the snowmobile happens all the time so we were wasting all of our energy worrying about nothing.  Couple of beers later he admited that maybe I leaned the right way and I conceded his driving was not that bad.  Typical Ray, always thinking about other people before himself.  Really missing him around this time of year!

Golfing City Park

April 16, 2012

We were playing a hole on the backside of City Park,(next to the Zoo). After my drive found the rough, Ray crushed his drive down in the middle of the fairway. As we were walking off the tee box, we could see a kid walking across the fairway. He picked up Ray's ball and headed towards the street. Ray started yelling, which only made this kid pick-up his pace to a full run. Ray was "pissed", especially when I told him it would cost him a stroke for a lost ball. I loved golfing with Ray.
