Dear Charlie Sook❤ ,

The heart has been dealing with your loss, even if it's been 16+ days.  It is always harder for the heart to accept what the mind knows.  Time and distance amplified the loss that I feel, of my dad's last surviving brother. I had wanted the chance for one last " yum cha" .

I will always treasure the memory of my first milk shake the time I flew (by myself!) to KK, to join Aunt Dora as a five year old(?). We'd bundled ourselves into the back of your VW bug. My first milk-shake ever!

You know, it had always tickled me pink that the naughty ones from school, who became lawyers, are scared of offending you when they have a case before you. You were simply Charlie Sook to me.

Rest in Peace, Uncle Charlie.

Dear Clement. Caroline, Chris and Sook May - thanks for sharing the last goodbye to Uncle Charlie. It was comforting to be with cousins and family. May the Lord Bless and Keep You, always.

From Charles' nieces in LA:

Dear Aunt Catherine, Carol, Christopher and Clement:

So sorry to hear the passing of uncle Charles. Words cannot express how sad we were when first learned uncle Charles was at his last moment. As we remember, uncle Charles was not only a dedicated loving husband, father and grandfather, but also such a handsome, energetic and athletic person. Life is so unpredictable. We have never expected that he would passing so soon. He is now at a better place and will be missed deeply.

Our deepest condolences, prayers and thoughts are with you.

Fondly,
Julie and Rita

Our deepest condolences to Auntie, Carol, Chris, Clement, Cheryl, Christian, Cayla and all relatives.

I remember that time we all went fishing in Kota Belud together with Uncle, Chris, Clement & Cheryl. Fishing requires a lot of patience. Uncle was not only patient but a kind and humble man too despite his stature. This has touched me until today and I am grateful that I have known Uncle. I know the qualities of patience, kindness and humility were not only inculcated upon his children but upon his grandchildren as well.

May you rest in peace in heaven, Uncle.

Hi Carol,
I'm so sorry for your loss. The pain of losing a loved one is just indescribable. I will always have fond memories of hitching rides in uncle's car during our school days. I guess I have known him just as long as I have known you! To those in the legal fraternity, you will find words like 'firm', 'fair', 'respected', 'learned', 'wise', and probably 'fierce' too, to describe him. To me, I see the kind of person he was through you. A caring, loyal, practical and upright person. So, let's rejoice for he is in a better place, and let's celebrate his life for he had led a fulfilling and rewarding life. I grieve with you, aunty, Chris, Clement and family, and cherish together with you all those beautiful moments with him. GOD BLESS

Uncle, you will always be remembered as someone who is so generous, kind, and with family-first in mind. We got to know you through Cheryl and Clement. You welcomed us, and then our kids, as extended family - there are no airs about you. Down to earth and easy-going. A quiet big man with a big heart. You would always be the first to pay for meals, such that we would sometimes avoid having meals with Cheryl and Clement if their family was having dinner out with “Kung Kung” :)

We remember how doting you are to Christian and Cayla, we watched them grow with you since they were babies and through their formative years. You would spend time with them few times a week – a legacy and memory that we are sure would have a long-lasting impact on them but also on us as an example of devoted family life.

Our deepest condolences to auntie, Carol, Chris, Clem, Cher, Christian, Cayla and all the relatives. Take comfort that uncle has "fought the good fight, ... finished the race, ... kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7) and Jesus said 'In truth I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.' (Luke 23:43)

Rest in peace in heaven, uncle.

Dear Christopher, my deepest condolences on the demise of your father. He was always a wise judge and down to earth man even though sometimes I was on the receiving end of his admonishment in court. I recall one occassion when I as a new lawyer in 1992 had the opportunity to meet him casually with other new lawyers in his chambers. The conversation drifted to the istana incident when datuk ho walked out of the istana without swearing in tun mustapha. I asked if he was afraid. His reply was "why should I be afraid? I was only doing my job and I felt it was wrong". This shows his great sense of justice. After his retirement, whenever I met him, he was always the same cheerful person. The last time I met him was in Damai shops having dinner. Your father was a very special sabahan and will be missed. God bless you and your family.

No words can express the deep sadness we feel of losing a loving father, father-in-law and grandfather. I thank God everyday that he has blessed us with one that was unconditional in his love and unreserved in his kindness. He has touched the lives of many and will forever live in our hearts.

We love you father. May the Lord Jesus embrace you with his love up in heaven, just as you have always embraced us with your love here on earth.
Til we meet again.

Datin Seri Panglima Datin Catherine Ho and family, my wife and I wish to convey our deepest condolences on the sudden passing away of your beloved husband and father. He was not only my senior in the State Attorney-General's Chambers but also a close friend. I learnt a lot from him when I first joined the SAG's Chambers as a DPP. He was kind, friendly and helpful always willing to lend a helping hand. We shared a lot of happy moments together not only on the golf course but also on other occasions. His passing away is a great loss not only to his loved ones but also to his many friends especially to me as a personal friend. May God give you strength and courage to face this difficult time on the occasion of your bereavement.

May God Bless you and family!

My deepest heartfelt condolence to YBhg Datin Catherine and family of the late honourable Justice Datuk Charles Ho who sadly passed away on 4th Oct 2020.

Justice Datuk Charles Ho was truly a judge who ensured justice is not only heard but seen not only in his career in the judiciary but also lived out his life as such too...an admirable legacy he left not only with us in the legal fraternity but no doubt with his beloved family too.

He truly upheld his impartial position in the judiciary by sacrificing his social life in order to be seen impartial at all times as I recall he was usually having lunch alone. A true man of principle and integrity that our nation has lost. I hope his legacy will be carried on by the current and future justices. He will forever be missed.
Love and hugs to the family from Datuk Katherine Lee.

Datin Seri and family, please accept my condolences on your loss.
I had the honour to appear before the late Judge from the late 70s .As a fresh lawyer and DPP he was certainly formidable. But underneath all that was a kind man who wanted you to do your best and be a good officer of the court.
Integrity was of utmost importance to him.He always reminded lawyers to know the facts of the each case well and had little tolerance for those did not.I'mforever grateful to him for the many lessons he gave from the bench.
May he rest in peace.

Dear Datin Sri Catherine,
I was saddened to hear about the passing of Datuk Charles Ho. I served him as an officer from 1993 to 2001. He was a man of principle and integrity. Despite his serious demeanour in court, I can attest to the fact that beneath the stern exterior, he was a kind and generous man. He always sought to balance the scales of justice with as much fairness as with compassion. He will be greatly missed by all officers and staff who served under him. My family and I offer my deepest condolences to Datin Seri Catherine and family.

Deepest condolences to Datuk Charles' wife & family. My golf buddies & I got to know him on the golf course in SGCC. Sometimes he joined us on an evening round & it was always a pleasure to have him in our group. He would give us tips on how to execute a good shot & his sense of humour gave us many light moments. He was a good teacher & I always recall what he said when in doubt about which club to use. Rest in peace Datuk Charles. May His perpetual light shine upon you always.

Thank you for sharing stories of the past.
Thank you for helping my family with Joan.
Thank you for the lovely time we spent together under the Segamat Bridge, feasting on the bittersweet intoxicating sensations of durians followed by the weird tasting brew of detoxification. Some over 20 years ago now but forever etched in my lizard brain. AWESOME!

These and many more memories I will keep in fondest remembrance. ☺️

You were not just an UNCLE but more like a MATE.

My dear father & departed family members are undoubtedly with you now on the other side. In unison...

I thank God again for giving me the opportunity to hang out with you one last time.

Dear Catherine,

I am deeply grieved at the sudden passing of Charles. His sudden passing is a devastating loss. My heartfelt condolence to you, Caroline, Christopher, Clement and others.

I have known Charles since when he was a teacher in St. Mary Secondary School in 1957 to 1959, I was one of his students, I met up with him again in London when he was a law student. Our path crossed again back in Sabah when he served in the legal service and as a judge for 37 years.

With my special and close affinity with him during the threshold period of my life, I can firmly say that he had lived an exemplary life and had set a standard of propriety for himself and for those around him. During the course of his profession, he had strived not only to improve the best in himself but also strived the best in many who were in association with him. All of us had high regard and opinion of him as a friend and as a judge.
Those who know him are deeply grieved at his passing, but the prayers of so many friends will surely turn the grief of despair into grief of faith and hope, and will bring comfort and ease to you and family.

Catherine, even though we cannot be with you for the final farewell, our thoughts and prayers will surely help to commit Datuk Charles to the care of the Lord.

REST IN PEACE, Charles.

James and Adda Pang Tawau

P.S. Datuk and Datin Joseph Lee sent their condolences to you and family.

I will never forget Uncle Charles' kindness and generosity.

I remember when I was a child, I was with my cousins Cayla and Christian while he was looking after us for the day. He took us to a book store at a mall in K.K. to pass some time. While we were there, I had my eyes on a book but knew I couldn't buy it without my parents being present. As I was returning the book, Uncle Charles took notice and insisted that he buy it for me. I have never forgotten that moment.

I wasn't very close to Uncle Charles but this memory of his generosity and kindness has remained with me for a long time and I will always remember him for that.

Dearest Uncle Judge
Growing up we thought that was your name. Whenever you visited us in Kuching , mum and dad were always happy to see you and we looked forward to your warm sense of humor. Mum always said you were a brilliant and decisive judge. And I know dad enjoyed golf with you.

I remember family trips to Santubong, catching up in Australia.

May eternal rest be granted unto you and perpetual light shine upon your soul

Uncle Charles, you have left us so suddenly. Words cannot express how we feel even though we know you are in good hands with our Lord in heaven and not to say with all your other 6 brothers probably frolicking around having fun wondering what took you so long. Your mom have her hands full again with all the boys "home". For us, your time here is too short. The joy you brought will forever linger in our minds.
I remember the fishing trips where our two families would go as mom is also an avid fisherwoman like you. To Tuaran we go, Pantai Dalit, walk out 1/4 mile to the headland, loaded with food for lunch, fishing rods, bait, you name, we have it. We would catch small, sometimes big fish and when we catch nothing, Uncle Charles would said "meow kung". Those were happy days.
Uncle Charles likes to go hunting and somehow mom would know to wait up for him. One night, I heard a honk, looked out the window and there is Uncle Charles and a friend. Crept downstairs and sat on the stairs, looked out the window and saw them pulling the skin off some animal. Hmmm... the next day, he brought everyone over and we all have "chicken soup". Somehow the meat is round cut in circles????........it was snake meat!!!! But we were too young to know and loved it especially Carol!!!! How can I forget.
Uncle Charles loves to hunt and we would enjoy the fruits of his labor, Wild boar, flying foxes, snakes but can't remember if there was a crocodile somewhere in this mix.
I remembered he brought all 12 of us to golf, 4 ladies (Carol, Fiona, Aunty Dora and myself). We tested his patience that day as we were all beginners except Aunty Dora as he wanted the ladies to tee off first to make sure we are left behind. But he will have it no other way even though we were so bad!! He would just teased us and smile. Uncle Francis was riding the cart with him and the boys were betting big bucks!!!! It was a lot of fun.
Uncle Charles, there are so many fond memories of you. Your unconditional love, kindness, generosity, loving nature and all that you gave us during your time here with us, we will forever cherish.
We love you and will miss you. You will be forever in our hearts. Till we all meet again someday.

My father was a generous, kind and supportive man. He loved Mom, my sister, my brother & his daughter in laws dearly. His grandchildren, Christian & Cayla meant the World to him.

I remember him clearly throughout my school years. He was a maths genius to me in my earlier primary and secondary school days. I struggled in algebra and he was just a wiz in it. I strived to be like him and it pushed me to be better in my later school years. I am so thankful to him.

Fishing was one of his favourite past time apart from golf and hunting. We were taught at a young age how to fish and I will always cherish those moments with him. Fishing under the Likas Yayasan bridge was a daily thing for us (back then there were plenty of fish!). I remember our late Uncle Lo who was his good friend and he organises all these fishing trips for us. Driving 3 hours in his bumpy land cruiser all the way to Kota Belud in the wee hours from KK. Fun & bonding all in one.

I will miss him very much. I try to take comfort knowing that his legacy, his beliefs & his teachings will live in me. He will always be a part of me forever. These values I will teach and hand down to my children.
His stories and memories will always be spoken and shared in my home together with Cheryl and the children.
I will always love you Dad.

To say I love my father would be a huge understatement and wholly inadequate – I am truly blessed to have Pa who is the most caring, nurturing and loving father anyone can possibly wish for or want. I had a precious and unique bond with Pa that is so hard to explain, so hard to express, and so desperately hard to let go of. He was always there for me – a constant in my growing years through to university and beyond, he made sure I was happy and able to achieve and succeed as an assured and confident individual and a compassionate human being.

A modest and humble man simple in his needs and wants, he never asked anything in return for his love, devotion and generosity, content in knowing that his family is cared for and happy.

It is undoubtedly just how much I am today is from my relationship with my father. Not simply practical skills but life skills, emotional strength and attitudes, the basis of my fortitude and key foundations of my personality.

I am, as are my Mum, brothers, my sister in law and the grandkids, devastated with losing him, but will try to overcome the sadness with memories of the joy and happiness of everything we shared together. I will always value, remember and hold dear what I received from my Pa and pass on the best of what I learnt from him. He remains a part of me as I journey further in this life.
